Really? What size tire are you running? They rate the different tires with different milage warranty so I think they are all different compounds. My 205/45/17 SUCK in the snow. I have had other all season tires that seemed like winter tires compared to the 912's. Other than that I am very pleased.

205/50/16 work good for me in our Colorado Mountains, not deep snow but cold and wet.

A point I must make, when I am on these tires in the snow I am not trying to fly the MINI, but I'm running the current prevailing speeds.

The higher mileage rating for the taller aspect ratios has to do with a more flexible side wall being easier on wear, not due to different compounds. If the tires had different compounds they would not be the same tires. Compound is the main factor that determines a tire model.

You might find that a higher aspect ratio tire handles better in the snow. The flexibility of the sidewall helps to keep the tread on the road in uneven conditions. People seem to like to run low profile tires, often citing less sidewall deflection as a reason, but sidewall deflection not an issue at the cornering speeds most people are doing on the road.

Compliance of the tire, the ability to shape to the road and stay on the road, is the biggest factor, all else being equal, for good performance on our bumpy roads and higher sidewall tires are more compliant, while lower aspect ratio tires are often harsh and leave the road on bumps.

912's are you get wat you pay for.

they are not great tires but they do the job for most dd applications.
for winter definitely sucks in the wet. i would not be buying another
set after im done on the FitS.

Ken, your Fit must be a real light car, so far only bother I have with the 912s are the noise developing since I did not rotate correctly.
Don

Of course, I probably will go to another winter tire for the next set on the 17s versus the 16s, Extreme summer for the 16s for track usage in the plan.

I must disagree. With the 912s, I got much more than I paid for ($52/ea.) For a higher performance tire, Goodyear, BF, Pirelli, I think you get much less than you pay for (~$100/ea.), due to the name recognition and advertizing overhead. There is no way someone would be able to convince me that the $100 tire is TWICE as good in every way.

Now, If I was running laps and every 1/10 of a second counted, tires would probably be the top $$$ priority. But I'm not, and neither is 99.98% of vehicle owners.

2 cents.
