Alex also mentioned that the China ones are long gone..... perhaps it was
a one time thing and it just didn't work out as a whole (?).

anyway, i will take a look at the tire when i get it next week.

I got mine (Goodyears, that is. I don't have any babies.) from Discount Tire, and they were made in Germany. I got the same price as Tire Rack's sale so I guess I got the best of both worlds.

I'm all for staying away from "Made in China" labels, but I would expect Goodyear to have ensured their Chinese manufacturer was producing a quality tire. After all, the average consumer doesn't notice where their tires were made. If something goes wrong they look at the big letters on the side that say GOODYEAR, not the the little ones that say "Made in China."

Thanks kenchan for passing that along, you got nice service from Alex. So if I want to order from Tire Rack, do I use their online order form or do I contact Alex? I don't see anyplace on the online form to specify desired country of origin!

bee1000n, what was your total out the door at Discount Tire? Just wondering how they do the price match when their online prices include mounting/balancing and Tire Rack's don't. And if you opt for the road hazard coverage, the two programs are different.

you can call Alex to order, or use the online store and put ALEX
during the checkout so he can get credit for the support. today,
Alex and I exchanged a few emails (about the China and German)
and since he has my info, badabing done. no need to order online
for me. I got my online confirmation and tracking via email.

that would be offset by the weight of money not in his pocket after buying them

make sure you still inspect your tires from time to time
regardless of where it's built.

look for the obvious... nails, pull out rocks, any cracks, bubbles on
the sidewalls, etc. i usually just raise the wheel and inspect the
whole surface while the wheel is still on the car. i use a mirror (magnet
tool) and check the inner sidewall for wear and bubbles.

my spare tire that i bought like a year or so ago that's in my
basement is MADE IN GERMANY.

and my new tire should be here in the next 30min or so. will inspect
upon arrival.

anyone local want a pair of 50% tread-left GSD3 in 205/50/16 size?
They would be perfect for auto-x, probably as the tread is shorter and
you guys true your tires on a lathe anyway right? i will have a pair for
free if anyone's interested. otherwise, it will be tossed at the tire shop.
(You will need to pick it up at the time I go to the tire shop)

they started building some road noise now from the wear (normal) so im
going to replace them.

Discount gave me the tires for Tire Rack's price, including shipping. That was $131 (they didn't even look it up, just took my word for it). Then they charged me their standard mounting/balancing/install price which is like $11 per tire, if I remember correctly.

The tires were $164 each through Discount at the time. I didn't ask for the insurance comparison, I just bought Discount's for $84 (which came in handy since I got an impact separation later).

will probably mount these in the next coming weeks. again, if anyone

Better check the law in Illinois before putting tires in the trash. I'm pretty sure it's illegal here in California (of course it's illegal to throw most things in the trash in California).

lol... who said I was going to put it in the trash? im not going to
be carrying home used tires in my car. the store will dispose it for me
unless someone wants to pick it up at the time i get the new pair
mounted.

i inspected the new tire closely with the one i already have. the mold
appears to be the same. everything looks the same other than the
product label which is now in black and white. before, it was in color.
