I think there have been some other posts about 40mm offset and rubbing. From what I remember, yes, you will have some light rubbing with 215/45 R16, lowered, and 40mm offset. It's the offset that will kill you. With that 215 you really need something in the 46 to 52 range.

But again, we are only talking about "light" rubbing, which does not bother some people.

Well, I got a little different set-up; 215/45/17 tires on 40mm off set wheels; at stock height, and do not have a rubbing problem. I've been running that set up for about 1500 miles, and have been over some really rough roads and dips, and so far I've yet to hear it rub, or see any signs of rubbing.

From the aspect that I'm running 17's and you're looking at 16's, I think you should be alright.

One thing I'd recommend while shopping for tires; look at the specs of the tires and compare the overall height of the tire. Even though the tire may be marked 215/45/16, there may be a slight difference in overall tire height between different brands.
