and now the brakes look rusted. Is this right? How can I clean this, it looks orange now.

Your 1st stop will clean the rust off. It tends to rust as its totaly naked cast iron. each time the pad passes its removes a microscopic layer. this prevents any of us from stopping the rust.

Yup, gotta drive it.

Last winter, I noticed that my brake calipers would "freeze" against the rotors if I had been driving in extremely salty and slushy conditions; that's how fast rust sets in on bare iron. I'd feel an initial "pop" when I started driving the car if I'd left it overnight that way. Once You've braked once or twice it's gone.
