wheel weight / sears?
wheel weight / sears?
hey guys
i was in sears last night buying some yard stuff and saw a set of chrome steel wheels that would like nice on my new cooper. there made by ssc? and they weight 25 pounds which i know is pretty heavy but at least i know they won't break like my asa lw5's.
what do you figure the power loss would be? and what do stock wheels weigh?
btw.....i'm going from an 04 cooper to an 07 cooper s turbo
thanks

That will give you all the weights of the stock wheels.
Overall, 25 lbs is quite a bit for a set of most likely 15" 16" wheels...
I have no way of estimating the power loss, but it would be pretty sluggish off the line with all that wheelmass to spin.
ok, a couple of things.
a heavier wheel has no bearing on how strong this wheel will be.
its strength comes from how it's manufactured and its quality. Is this wheel gravity cast, light pressure cast, or forged? That will give you a much better idea of how strong it will be.
And you really aren't "loosing" power. Its a matter of rotational mass and the energy needed to get it moving.
25lbs isn’t much more than what a stock 17” wheel would weigh. The difference is insignificant. You won’t even notice.

hey guys thanks for the replys.....that wheel site was very helpful. seems that 25 pound is heavy but not that much more than the s lites....but 10 pounds lighter than the asa's i had on my copper
thanks

You said the 25-pound Sears wheels were still ten pounds lighter than your old ASAs, which would mean the ASAs weighed 35 pounds each. The ASAs were the wheels I was asking about - sorry about the confusion, I probably should have quoted your post in my reply.
