I actually do like tall people. And to prove it, I used to date a gal that was 6'1".

Or maybe it's not the size that matters.....

(BTW, I've decided not to lower....I do a lot of skiing..dirt roads so lower would not be in my favor seeing as with the JCW Aero Kit, I'd be less than 2" off the tarmac.)

1. I'd think the stock struts/shocks would be prone to fail very quickly or detorioriate rapidly - true?

2. How's the ride with the H&Rs, especially with 4 adults or cargo?

3. Has anyone come out with a short bodied shock?
#1. No. it's an urban myth, perhaps perpetuated by ricers that remove their bumpstops.

#2. The ride is very similar to stock with one or two people in the car. I don't have rear seats, and I rarely carry cargo. I did have a set of tires in the back with a weekend bag this weekend, and the car seemed basically the same, although it sat lower [not a bad thing, IMO] .

#3. You can fit any R53 shock onto an R56 as long as you use the stock R56 front spring hat and strut mount, and the Helix rear trailing arm adapter for the bottom shock mount. This means you can fit Koni Yellows . I honestly can't say if the Koni's or any other damper are shorter though.

Ryan

So I have some H&R's and want to lower my car when I get it in a day or two. But this thread has given me some doubts. I mean is it absolutely terrible to be riding on the bumpstops? I want my ride lowered, but don't want to have to spend huge $$$ for coilovers. It sounds like the stock suspension isn't all that when it comes to travel, so what real difference is it going to make if I lower it with the H&R's? Sorry the post is so long!

I have no idea what the roads are like in Salt Lake City.

I really gotta pick a good line around potholes or adjust my speed through particularly nasty Seattle road construction.

Get it on the track, or in some good smooth twisties... and it's well worth it.

OK so it's not all that bad then, right? The roads out here are so so, but I used to drive an '02 Cougar that I slammed 3 inches....so I have all of the current and developing potholes memorized! I just like having to pay that much more attention to driving, that's why I do it. By the way how was the install? On a scale of 1 - 5? 5 being motor swap hard, and 1 being changing your oil.

Bump!

Given the knowledge from the 1st post regarding overall shock travel, is it an apples to apples comparison when looking at a coilover vs stock?

For example...

Stock: F - 5" / R - 4.6"

BC Racing BR: F - 3.7" / F - 4.7"

Fortune Auto: F - 3.8" / R - 3.5"
I feel like it is not apples to apples, as the stiffer spring rates and valving come into effect, as they wont necessarily compress as much.
