Everything you wanted to know about suspension and more...

I found this great link while doing some research

www.carbibles.com

It really explains how and why all types of suspensions work. There is also a section on tires and brakes too.

Um...this site is amazing. Thank you for deciding how I'll spend more than a few hours reading and digesting!

The secret is out!

I used one of his graphics in the suspension article in the last MC2...

Wow, that site has grown a bit since I last visited. I usually just visit for the wheel & tyre bible (there's a good size converter there). I've been worrying suspension issues lately though and completely forgot about that section - thanks for the reminder!

What you will find...

is excellent basic information. Like the description of a trailing arm suspension (what we have in the rear) or the Mac Strut (that we have in the front). It will also let you know about general issues (like the Mac strut being good for packaging, but only so-so for handling because of poor camber gain and scrub behavior). What it won't give you is the specifics about how this relates to the Mini.

So it's a great place to learn the basics, and look up some vocabulary, but one still has to go elsewhere for specifics on our cars.

Meh, a quick glance through the place revealed titanium spark plugs, twin screw superchargers are the most common type, trailing arms give lateral support, the author crediting Audi with introducing the GM/Delphi MagneRide system in 2006 (used in GM cars since 2002), and railing against the horrible dangers of ABS on the nanny cars rant page.

But it is very well illustrated and entertainingly written.
