Bilstein vs Koni CO

Need thoughts / opinions on putting either Bilstein or Koni Coilover's on a 2006 MSC.

I have installed both, and driven cars with both Bilstein and Koni coilovers on the track and the street.

there was not enough difference between them to justify the extra $$$ for the bilstein.
the last time I checked the bilsteins where almost the double price of the KONIS.

Both are reputable shock manufacturers,

I believe Koni is the best bang for the $

Victor, it was recently pointed out to me that the Koni's have some different dimensions compared to stock and the Bilsteins; the front coils and the perches are set lower on the struts possibly causing clearance issues with some wheels/tires. Is this correct? If so, I run 17x7.5" rims with 40 offset with 215/45 tires and would like to know if there would be a clearance problem between the struts and tires...

thanks!

Marcel.

We have installed many kits, and there has never been any issue,

We usually install these with 17X7 or 17X7.5 , offset 42, and either a 205/45 or a 215/40.

My guess is, if you have the wrong offset, the tire will rub even on the factory strut.

replacement suspension...

What Koni's ?

The FSD or the Sport set ?
How much difference in day to day driving is there between the Stock * SS+ * and either the FSD or the Sport shocks and springs ?

Thanks,

Koni offers 3 suspension options

The FSD shocks:
superior to the factory shocks, for customers who do nat want to lower their cars or just lower it 0.5 to 1". these are not adjustable

The sport shocks or yellows
These are adjustable and will give you a better ride then stock, either soft or hard, can be used with lowered springs 1 to 1.5 drop.

The koni coilovers,
same internals as the sports, also adjustable, for drivers that want to lower the car more then 1.5" or track use

It appears the price difference between going full coil over vs the Sport Shocks and Springs is only a couple of hundred.

What would be the advantage of the CO over the Sport Kit besides lowering it more then 1.5".

Also, as far as ease of adjustment, how do the Koni's and Bilstein's compare.

Final question or I guess I request for comment,,, going from a stock MCS suspension to a Coil Over, for street use, is the improvement pronounced making a good handling car and super handler?

are the koni coilovers available without lowering the car?

where i live there are speedbumps that grow in places overnight and are at least ~4 inches high and aren't rounded very well

besides the stop signs that follow me around

whats maintainance for the koni coilovers like? can i use them for normal street driving?

thanks

On my own 05 MCS street car,

I run Koni yellow shocks, for me I do not see the benefit of running the coilover kit for the street.

Also the PROPER installation of the coilover requires the car to be put on scales to adjust the perches properly, corner balance,
if you are not willing to do that stay away from the coilovers.

And yes, it is technically possible to run coilovers at the factory height.

hope this helps

Does anyone know what the spring rates are for the koni coilover? Single or twin tube? Where are the dampening adjustments made?

Konis are (most likely) twintubes, bilstein PSS are monotubes
