Suspension Help with "seat of pants camber"
Help with "seat of pants camber"
Hi all, I am going to purchase a camber tool but not right yet.
I have H&R springs (1 inch drop) and adjustable upper and lower controll arms.
Could one of you who knows their camber please use a squair / right angle and measure with the 90 on the ground and, tell me what your known camber is and what the measurement to thre upper edge if the rim is.
I set it at 3/4 inch just eyeballing it
I'll take it to the shop / get the tool just wanted to be in the ball park.
I thought about going to the dealership but that could look odd
Thanks

The traditional way of measuring camber without a gauge is to subtract the distance to the lower edge of the lip from the distance to the upper edge when using a square on the ground. The math is (Difference/(3.14159 * 2 * Height)) * 360 = degrees. For example if the difference is 0.75" and you have S-lites which are 18.5" in height, that works out to 2.3 degrees, negative I hope
. Which should be close enough to drive to a shop.
Note this method works even if the ground is not level, unlike a gauge.

With having both the upper and lower arms you should be more concerned about toe. The wrong toe setting can wear out your tires in a few miles. Try to match the arms to the stocks ones as a start.
