M7 Springs/ Koni Shocks

Hi Folks

Got M7 springs and was planning on just using them with stock shocks.

Sorta change in plans and thinking of adding Koni Yellow Shocks.

Basic questions:
1)Is this setup is ok?
2) Whats your experience with koni yellows? - are they good shocks or is it just a brand name?
3) If i go springs & shocks .. will this require me to add something else?

I use the car for street only.

Cheers.

The stock shocks are not well suited to lowered or higher performance springs. While they are good quality, they will wear and fail prematurely when combined with springs not matched to them. Konis are an excellent shock, their reputation is well deserved. They balance well with aftermarket springs for the MINI, and are fully adjustable allowing you to tune the ride you want. For street use you don't really need anything else. For track, you would do well to add rear adjustable control arms, and front camber plates to allow for optimum alignment and camber settings.

I have some Konis, and H&R's and i love the Konis. They are a little stiff at the stiffest setting...but thats why they are adjustable

I had the koni yellows and m7 sprigs and didnt like it at all, I think the valving on the koni's is a bad match for the rates on the m7 springs. I couldnt find a happy medium in settings ont he shocks to make it livable. I know a ton of people with koni shocks that love them and there are a bunch of people with m7 springs that are very happy. I just dont know anyone who has both and is happy. I switched to pss9's and have never looked back.

Detlman - what was it about the m7/koni setup u didnt like? was the ride too harsh?? (bouncy or just too stiff)

So what have people been using the Koni's with then? eibach, Hsports etc?

overall I was unhappy with the ride, it was harsh and would either be really stiff or it would bottom out depending on the shock setting. It just didnt work for me.

i would try h-sports with them. On the other side, for another couple of hundred dollars you might as well get coilovers

Hm.. things arent looking too good for me.. starting to think that getting these springs were a mistake coz they'll ruin my shocks eventually unless i get aftermarket shocks.

What shocks suits the M7 springs then? only pss9's?

I think the m7's are better suited for the stock shocks. PSS9's are a full coil over set.

Many many people run the m7, h-sport, h&r and many other springs with stock shocks.

aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? Most people that bought M7 springs use the factory shocks and most like the ride. I've only seen a few reports of clear premature shock wear, some report over 10K of miles without any problems. Then there is one report from one person not liking the springs with yellow Koni's. I say, go with the factory shocks and see if you like it, then keep your eye on aftermarket shocks. If you do the spring swap yourself a second swap, of the shocks, will be way easy...

Hey mate

- Understand and agree with u about 'getting ahead' of myself re: springs with stock shocks etc.

However I have the chance to get some Koni yellows cheap - which is why iam trying to find out if they are suitable with M7 springs. Otherwise id be wasting my money if i didnt bother looking into it

Also - i will have an idea which shocks are suitable, incase i DO experience premature shock wear.

Hope this gives an insight to my questions.

Cheers.
