Suspension Change springs and shocks on MINI Cooper. Whats next?
Ortho Jr.,
I think you mis-understood what I wrote; indeed, a bar that is too large can ruin an independent suspension design - I agree completely! Weight transfer is shared by springs, dampers, AND swaybars. To what degree depends upon what % of distribution each take on. Take the stock Mini for example; if the sway bar sizes front and rear are increased by 50% for example, the handling balance will not change, but responsiveness will be quicker.
Also, what Kenchan wrote, "depends upon what else you've done", is correct; soft springs allow a given bar to come on-line faster than heavy springs; soft springs allow a bar to twist faster. Here, it's a mater of steering angle.

The problem with it, even not taking it to that extreme, is that you're taking the independant-ness out os the suspension. Also the quickness of the weight transfer depends on the shocks.
Maaij and Snid -
It sounds like you replaced your stock Cooper SS (not SS+) suspensions with aftermarket.
I actually have an 02 MC with standard SS (not SS+), but before the changes to the suspension were made in 03 to a slightly softer setup. I am actually looking to get a bit softer setup, and am considering installing a later version of the stock suspension, after the "softer" setup was incorporated, to swap with my original setup, in the hope of getting a bit softer more comfortable ride.
If either of you, or anyone else, has a stock MC post-03 SS suspension setup, or even just shocks, that you would like to unload, let me know as I may be interested in taking them off your hands.
Thanks,
Don
