tire rotation? HOW TO?

Very stupid question, but when I go to rotate my tires, how exactly do I do that? Front to back, side to side? Thanks for the info once again!! Peace.

If you have non directional tires the rule of thumb is usually Driver front goes to Passenger rear and Passenger Front goes to Driver Rear. Or at the first rotation do Front to rear and then cross them and follow that pattern to get full rotation.

Hope that was kind of clear hehe.

Since nearly all tires are radials these days, that by default radials are directional and should be treated as such. That's my understanding, could be wrong. However, the direction is most important to the tread and how well it will work in the wet. Tire construction also may dictate the correct rotation direction - and some construction designs don't care which direction you run them (such as zero bias.)

Tire manufacturers are ultra conservative and specific in their recommendations for use due to law suits - it narrows the scope of their liability. They will insist you run a tire one direction only but often the truth is it makes no difference.

I've run DOT race tires and slicks backwards on my track bike more than once and found they work fine. And I can assure you, you need to trust your tires, especially on the track on a bike.

For example, the official line by Dunlop is to run the tire in the direction of the arrow on the side wall. But take a Dunlop tech aside and ask him, he'll tell you running the tire backwards is fine. He'll just ask you not to quote him.

I thought the tires rotated when you drove the car? I could be wrong though.

Sorry, April Fool's fallout seems to be everywhere today.
