Alta Springs

I'm interested in buying some springs, and the altas seem to be a great deal ($160), but is it a case of you get what you pay for? I'm also looking at the h-sports, which seem to be held in very high regard, so I may just end up going that route. I wasn't able to find much doing a search on the topic of the alta springs, so I was hoping someone with recent experience could give me their impression of the springs. Thanks.

What are you looking for in a set of springs? There are a couple considerations: Ride height, handling, and ride comfort.

I've always loved how the H-Sport springs actually improve the chassis balance (less understeer). Recently I've found the M7 springs look great and greatly improve ride comfort, at the expense of some at-the-limit handling. These are my two favorite springs sets for the MINI.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

I have the H&R springs and swaybars. Stiff as heck but the car handles awesome.

I just have to grab my wisdom teeth off the floor occasionally. They get knocked out.

Ryephile and detroittuned can hook you up with whatever you could want.

alta

I paid 150 for my alta's at www.jscspeed.com, in fact I have gotten alot from them because they are cheaper than most vendors and shipping is quick as well.

My alta's have only been on 2 weeks. The alta site says they drop the front .75" and rear 1". Looking at my car, I can tell the difference in the rear but can't really see that my front has dropped. As far as ride, much stiffer than stock, but then we all know that anyhow. My handling is much better, but then I also added control arms/camber and took an aggresssive alignment, so hard to say how much the springs attributed.

Seems the H&Rs get all the high marks from users, even my mechanic recommended them, but I only had the 150 at the time...

My MCS has been on M7 springs for the past 6-7 months and they have been great. The ride perfect even for the wifey and handling is awsome.
I also have a 19mm UUC sway bar (on soft setting) and H-sport lower control arms.

If you hit the twisties alot, you can avoid having to rotate the tires every 2500 miles too. Straight line driving for long distances tends to wear the insides of the rear tire because of the added negative camber from lowering.

the first mod i made to my car was the h-sports (courtesy of Detroit Tuned) and i have nothing but good things to say. ride won't kill you, handling is improved, and it looks pretty sweet. plus the price is right compared to some other stuff on the market. i ran all but one race last year on h-sports and they make the car even more capable than it already is.

p.s. if ur going for performance and not just looks, i'd say ****** up the H-sport rear sway bar too

I have put the eibachs and KW V2 coilovers on my car. I like the eibachs better than stock and the KW's. As a matter of fact I took off the kw's and left the eibachs on. It may be that I did not have the coilovers set right and will try them again. THe eibachs seem to give a better "smoother" ride and also when pushed hard they do well. The KW's when pushed gave to much and seemed to soft. Also I have 18" with 35 series and the ride is nice "relatively" granted it is not an old Cadillac but I would say nicer than the runflats and stock springs.

Any more feedback on the Alta springs would be great. I'm trying to decide between them and some Eibachs. I've not driven an MCS with the Eibachs yet, but I got a good test yesterday in an MCS with some Alta springs and was not disappointed. I guess the only thing keeping me wary of the Altas is the fact that they're cheaper than the Eibachs, the old you get what you pay for deal. And so many people seem to run Eibachs.

Given that I was happy with the ride with the Altas and the price (in Australia) is better than the EIbachs, can anyone give me a reason I should not go with the Altas?

I just got my MCS install with Alta spring last Wednesday and the site did said the drop on Front is .75 and the Rear is .95 but man I like the look of the rear with my 18" wheel. So how long do I have to wait before the spring really settle.?????? Any one????

P.S I also got my spring at the jscspeed.com

It took my alta's about a week/ and half to settle down, but that is only 200 miles/week daily driving to work. They squeaked coming out of my driveway and backing out at real slow speeds, otherwise never heard them. Now nothing.
