Front strut install need help

Hi Nam,

I'm installing Swift springs, Bilstein B6, and IE Camber plates. I've done this job twice on another R53. This one is giving me a hard time. With the IE Camber plates on, the lower part of the strut wont get into the knuckle. No problems with the OEM strut mount. It seems like the extra thickness of the IE plate extends the strut down preventing the knuckle to go under the strut, just by half and inch or so. I disconnected steering tie rod, I tried loosening the axle nut for more play, it didn't help, I tried zip tying the spring to compress it, but I still cant' push it up to make it over the knuckle. Any advice?

BTW, this is on the passenger side. I haven't tried doing the driver side.
thanks,

I had similar R&R issues with combo Helix plates plus Koni Yellows. My own method involved dropping fully within max excursion, then manually rotating steering to optimal clearance angle before "persuading" alignment back into the knuckle. Used small floorjack to help facilitate once best engagement angle achieved.

When dropping fully, did you push the control arm down or step on it?

Update. I was able to get it in using a piece of 2x4 and a floor jack. I jacked up the collar just enough to get the bottom over the knuckle. Worked like a charm, took 2 minutes.

Good idea. I had a tough time also with the passenger side when I added the fixed camber plates. Don’t remember the drivers side being as hard. 🧐

i also would like to hear your feedback/review on the swift springs? Track vs street? And how much, if any, lower the car is?

I love the swift springs for both track and street. I think swift is the best for dual duty. I have not tried any others though.
