End link pre-load?

"These rear swaybar drop links include heim joint ends that are adjustable to set preload"
What does pre-load on a swaybar actually do? A sway bar moves freely when not loaded and doesn't really work until cornering. So it seems to me that you would need to set your end links at different lengths to pre-load the bar. I can see how this would work if you were running on an oval track, turning only one direction, but what does it do for daily driving, or on a road course?

Am I missing something?

I just had my car corner balanced today and they got it very close to 50/50 cross corner weight. They said to get it any better that I should get end links for the sway bar. I hope I am relaying this right.

when you corner weight, the sway bars should be disconnected. after setting the weight by adjusting the coilovers, you then hook up the swaybar links. If one of the links is adjustable, you can do it without putting any side to side torque into the suspension. (that would throw off the corner weight you just set.)

Yah, this is why I get a little nervous when I see swaybars arriving in
beat-up boxes as it could be stress-bent which will throw off the leveling.

Stillen does a great job boxing up their swaybar kits for their lineup.
very nice job.

So you are suggesting that an adjustable end link is more useful in eliminating pre-load than adding it? That makes sense to me.
