I have an '03 R53 and I'm looking for new shocks for it. It's got stock suspension on it right now. I'd like to keep the stock springs/ride height but I'd like a bit better handling without sacrificing too much ride comfort.

Does anybody know if you can run the bilstein sport (B8) with the stock springs? I had a set of those with the H&R springs and the handling was amazing, but the ride left a little to be desired.

Or do I have to run the bilstein HD (b6) if I want to run stock springs? Does anybody know how the Koni FSD's compare to the bilstein HD's when it comes to cornering?

My car is a daily driver and I have to cart my kid around, but I also enjoy the occasional track day and I'd like to have a little more grip.

 

Doing springs as well will help with cornering more. I prefer straight up coil overs that way I have the adjustable dampening and ride height control, but I understand that you may want to keep the ride as comfortable as possible. If you're wanting to keep the OEM springs maybe add some sway bars to give you that little more of that better cornering that you want. Bilstein makes great products.
