Suspension Caliper paints?
Caliper paints?
Wanting to paint my calipers red. Was told to buy caliper paint or also get red Revlon or mary kay nail polish from target. Wondering what will last the longest and look the nicest on my R53 also how should I clean my calipers before painting?
Just get this:
Lots of colors, really easy to apply, great finish. Comes with cleaning fluid. instructions, and will do at least two or three coats on all four calipers. Did mine last year.

I second the g2, they have great reviews and great looks. I would definently get something meant for calipers, since they create so much heat. not all paint is created the same and will flake under extreme heat
Good choice, post a pic or two when you have it done.
I just bought a couple of small brass wire/stiff plastic brushes from the hardware store for a couple of bucks so I could get all of the ground-in junk off the calipers. You can paint with the calipers on the car (I did) but there will be a couple of places that you can't get to, but they won't show when you have your wheels on anyway. One day I'll do a full calipers-off job, but it looks great even without.

Just painted mine, used a couple different paints before. I like the dupli color and I cleaned them with Crc brake cleaner, however I took mine off to spray them. Make sure you use a high temp clear coat also.

On second thought...
Get about 50 bottles of nail polish, and paint away...then see if the nail polish catches fire, and turns brown, and flakes off...really...sounds like somebody is putting those ideas in your head...guessing it is the same person who wants you to buy "blinker fluid" or grease your brake linings to prevent wear....
On a serious note...
Painting calipers are all about preparation, and the right materials....anything else will result in an horable failure....oh yeah...I suggest you uninstall them, or unbolt them, then hang them off to the side if you don't want to bleed them, paint them in a box with thesliding areas and rubber parts masked off, etc ...
Guess you could do them in place...but lots more effort in prep and masking....
I painted my calipers too only did it while replacing pads and discs. If you want a little extra 'pop' paint the disc hats as well while you're at it. it is all in the preparation or you're wasting your time and money. Also, pictures of the finished project are mandatory. Without pictures, it didn't happen.
