Suspension Lowering in comfort
I must be getting old. I certainly must have a different definition of comfy shocks than you do. And I am the one with full race suspension as a dd.
I'm very happy with my Vmaxx coilovers. Cheap and great customer service. They ride pretty comfortable. The worst ride quality I've experienced, ever, on any car, was when I was running H&R springs on stock shocks. Horrible.
Good luck
Good luck
Not to mention that at 50 tons (close, right?) they flatten bumps much better than a Cadillac.
Not much padding for the commander? Shame!
Cheers,
Charlie
I've actually acquired the set of H&R street the local guy was selling, they really are in MINT condition. I'll be waiting until next summer to install them though. My plans are to set it dropped around 1" - 1.25". I'll look out for adjustable rear arms and maybe upgraded sway bars, but that is not yet confirmed.
I've designed ruggles scales and will start fabbing them next week. Corner balance at home, just for the heck of it.

Looking for an opinion and this thread seems to be the right place.
I am currently dropped on Eibach springs, but stock shocks. The ride is bumpy - at highway speeds if taking a corner with a rough surface, I feel I have little traction - the wheel is busy bumping around more so than sticking to the road keeping traction.
The car is rather stiff already so I should suspect that switching to coilovers is unlikely to make it "worse". I have an opportunity to get a set of BC coilovers somewhat inexpensively (with Swift shocks). Should I consider it? I track the car occasionally (very occasionally, since it's the wife's car). I can't raise it back to stock height because it looks like an SUV. Since it's the wife's car, I also don't want to spend $2K on KWv3s.
Should I just replace the shocks to something aftermarket? Or should I get a coilover set? Adjustability is not necessarily critical, though I suspect it's a neat feature to have (especially ride height, for winter).

Swapping the shocks for a set of Koni Yellow is definately an option too.
From what you are telling us, your suspension is clearly underdampened, having shocks with harder damping valving will solve this.
I even think the stock Sport suspension is kinda underdampened, the springs are pretty stiff for a stock car and it loses traction easily on uneven pavement, which points to the shocks not doing their job.
BTW, i'm not saying going BC coilover is not a good option, this may be a good setup, I have not tried them myself. There are a couple of members here running them and I think most are happy with them, and they are definately not expensive (which kinda scares me).

Underdamped will keep the tire in contact with the road, it will just oscillate a lot and feel sloppy. Underdamped systems are usually "bouncy."
But if instead of bouncy you mean harsh and painful, that's usually a sign of an overdamped system (or a system without enough bump travel). The car will skip over bumps as if the shock is not letting the spring extend all the way back out after a hit.
Both suck. The problem with the stock suspension is that it's overdamped at high piston speeds (big bumps) and underdamped for low piston speeds (body roll). So crappy ride and crappy handling. And it doesn't have enough travel.
Konis have much better damping than stock and BC coilovers. You do get stiffer springs with the BCs and maybe a little more bump travel and of course height adjustability. So if you must have those things get the BCs, but the Konis with Eibachs will probably ride better. Cut your bumpstops though.

Have I mentioned enough companies.
I'll add some more:-
RMW tune
Akropovic downpipe
Helix FMIC
Howerton Engineering HFS-3 water meth injection
BSH catch can
Alta DV spring upgrade
JCW front strut bar
Not yet as it hasn't arrived yet. This is a plate designed by Elie. I'll ask him if it is ok to email you a photo after I receive it. I think it is giving -1.3 degrees. With the -0.7 I already have, I should get a nice choice.
I'm looking to do suspension as my first mod, probably around the new year.
What's the general consensus here? Coilovers or Koni FSD with low-sitting springs.
I'm not concerned about ride quality, this may be my daily, but I prefer to feel the road. I'm pretty sure I'm correct with my probable decision of coilovers in this case.

I've got a question to all those who are lowered...I've got an R53 with (I think) Eibach springs installed by a previous owner...My problem is Eibach's don't get rid of the factory rake...My front is plenty low enough for my purposes (I've scraped my lip quite a few times already
).
My question is this: would I encounter any problems by changing the rear springs to another brand that would lower the rear another .25-.5"? I don't know if mixing brands would cause any problems and I don't see a point in buying an entire set of springs unless I have to. Any input would be appreciated...thanks

Adjustable not all important, unless it's a feature that would be useful for the track.
I have tried Eibach coils and found them wanting. Have driven Koni FSD and thought they were fine for the street. Heard good things about the bilsteins but did not try it. Settled on AST 5100 which I like a whole lot.
