Suspension R56 skidplate (auto trans)??
R56 skidplate (auto trans)??
There are no skid plates to be found for R56 a/t.
...interested if anyone has ever tried...or had any success with modifying one to fit?
I'm going lower...any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the Cobalt Engine Shield for the R56? I have it on a 2009 MCS R56 and manual transmission. The directions didn't state anything about not using it on an automatic transmission. I know the Rennline states that it is for a manual transmission only. The Cobalt covers less of the area so you might want to check it out. It was easy to install.
Well, acually I went ahead and got the skid plate a while back, ...just been busy and forgot to post back on the outcome...sorry
(plus, there wasn't much interest on the topic a couple months back...lol)
Anyway, after getting some good info from another NAM member, the only difference with the skid plate for the auto tranny, was that another hole needed to be made for access to the trans drain plug (similar to the one on other side for the oil plug access)
...easy fix, hole saw...a few minutes, no problema.
Otherwise...bolts up all the same.
Here is the problem with it! If you are low, ..low enough to be wanting to get a skid plate, the skid plate itself is another couple of inches lower in the back area....so that it ends up skidding/clunking VERY easily on places in roads/driveways that would otherwise not be a problem.
Yes, I know the idea is for the skid plate to take it before something vital (oil pan) does, but I couldn't even go a few miles around my house without scraping and knocking constantly.
Skidplate is now off car.
When I occasionally raise up to put one of my other (larger diameter) wheels/tires on, maybe then I'll put the skidplate back on...
..oh, wait...then I don't really have need for the skidplate
it was fail. waste of $.
