I may have found the solution to the "vibration after lowering" issue...

SO...As some of you may or may not know, some minis exhibit a nasty vibration coming from the front end after lowering the car. Those who have this issue know more about this than they ever wanted to, and those who don't have this issue may not know about it at all. That said, I have been through 2 suspension setups on my MCS to avoid this problem, so I'll give you my history.

I ordered and installed an H&R Touring Cup Kit, which lowers the car 1/4" all around. Not only was the drop not to my liking, but my car (lucky me) happened to exhibit the pulsating vibration under acceleration. After doing some research, it seemed that having the car at a certain height on particular cars with particular batches of half shafts, had this issue. So, I moved on to a KW V1 coilover setup. I have the coils at max height in the front which is a 1.2" drop and maybe 1.5" in the rear. Although the vibration is mostly gone, once you've had this issue you are extremely sensitive to it, and it was happening again ever so slightly. I also love how this setup rides, much better than both H&R and stock, IMO. Anyway, I decided I was going to live with this issue, because it's hardly noticeable.

Fast forward to a week ago, when I was installing these cool things called color lugs/color bolts. They are colored rubber caps that are made for whatever bolt head size you have (17mm in our case). I wanted these, because while 3 out of 4 of my wheel bolts in the front were stock, one was a chrome wheel lock. When I tried to cover the wheel lock bolt head, the cover was too large. So, I ended up throwing a regular bolt in that hole instead, as the caps need a special tweezer to remove anyway. As I thought about what I did, I remembered that the bolt I just used was longer than the other 3 stock ones, so I was worried that I'd have an inbalance. Strangely, after taking the car for a ride, the vibration was GONE. The only problem was, I noticed a bad vibration up around 100-105 which I could tell was from the bolts, because that never occurred before.

Well, long story short, I ended up replacing all the bolts up front with these longer bolts, so everything is equal, and the vibration is still 99.9% gone at all speeds. Either the extra weight from the 4 longer bolts at each front hub has counteracted that harmonic inbalance from the half shafts, or maybe 4 stock length bolts would work - our "vibration" batch of cars are just very sensitive to any difference between wheel bolt weight when lowered.

So, thanks for reading my long winded story, but I think it's all necessary to see how I randomly stumbled upon this "fix." Not saying this will work for everyone, but on my car, with my setup, it has. I'd encourage those of you with this issue to replace your wheel locks with a stock bolt, or even the longer bolts. See if this works for you. If so, I want this to be called the "Fox Mod"...

I also had the problem after I lowered the car,I installed a set of Teins Sport springs then after that I had the vibration. So first I changed out the motor mount and that helped a little. Then I re tightened all the strut bolts on top after about a week and the vibration is just about gone, I dont know if it from the springs setteling or not but its gone, at least for now.

Nice, glad to hear something worked for you. This problem is so widespread, yet inconsistent. That's what makes it so hard to nail down, but I figured I'd share what worked for me so others might try it!

I put H&R's and a 19mm sway bar. I had -2.5 camber in the rear. Tight, but livable. the vibration was pretty noticeable at first, but lessened after the springs settled in. Not the 24 hour settle, the 2 month settle.
I dropped in Alta lower control arms and re-aligned to -1.5 camber and rotated the tires. The vibration dropped even more. I also got a much smoother ride. Not so twitchy in the rear, and not as harsh over rough surfaces.
All in all, a ride closer to original, except lower to the ground and flatter in the curves.
