The rear spring rate is slightly higher than the front spring rate - our testing on the R56 revealed the rear needed a bit more spring... It allows you, the user, to dial in whatever you want with a rear sway bar.

If I do get shocks too...like the Konis...I do get close to coilovers price wise...hmmm...
my 2 cents ... take porthos advice and get good shocks ... WMW has a great sale going on Koni Yellows. I was thinking about going the coil over route and was thinking about KW Variants 2 ... in order to use these to their full capabilities you need to get more than coil overs.. in order to use them to their true capabilities as far as using all the adjustment features ...

id go with a shock and spring combo unless you are going to track the car a lot or you plain on going crazy on the suspension then spend the money on the coil overs ... but for any decent pair of coil overs your looking at over $1500 for a decent pair... all the advice people gave me about coil overs is DO NOT get a cheap pair. youll regret it.

yeah if your going to go coil over route. just do your research. I own a greeeat book for mini mod owners title is "The New Mini Performance handbook: by Jeffery Zurschmeide ... gives you amazing advise on all mods but esp with suspension ... pick one up off amazon for 15 bucks !! best of luck with your research and decision !!!

I am currently running on the softest my Konis will go front and back. Back is soft I think because I have not gone back there to adjust them yet. The ride is great it cushions the ride well but it is still very responsive. When I ride with the front on set on as tight as they will go, I can feel everything. I hit a penny and it practically throws my back out. Nah j/k it is not that bad. It becomes very responsive and handles amazingly.

As far as the comment about getting coilovers and saying why it didn't make sense. For the price I spent on my springs and shocks I could have gotten into an entry level set of coilovers which would have been okay. They would not have been great and really would have given me less then what I wanted. On top of the fact that the cheaper coilovers are really not meant for track use. My setup can be tracked if I so please which when my funds come back I will be out there with that setup. Coil overs are not always the best option as a lot of people see. There are coilovers that will trump a shock and spring combo any day of the week but, not all of them will.

yeah i straight swagger jacked porthos setup. but i also asked him a ton of questions and decided to go with it because like he said, entry level coil overs are the same. i did consider the H&R springs. but 1.5 is too low and i live in the nyc area (horrible roads) ... ill post pics and might do a DIY post if I actually do this install with my buddy. but ill for sure report back once i get them on and about 500 miles later after the springs have set. good luck with your decision !!

I am going to install TSW springs on my stock shocks tomorrow. I will post some initial results, including alignment changes. I bought the springs used, so I don't expect much settling. The TSW's are advertised at 5/8"-7/8" drop.

What is / are people's opinions on the Eibach springs? I had them on my S4 and found them much less aggressive than the H&R's.

I haven't really looked at Eibach springs much. Heck I can't find them at all.

I have been running the TSW springs I bought from WMW now for about a year and they hardly drop the car at all. The car definitely is more planted, however the ride does suffer. If I had to do it all over again (since I paid to have the springs done, not DIY) I would have waited to get the TSW springs with better shocks like others have mentioned -- OR I would have just gotten the ST kit which seems like a darn good deal to me.

I vote for NM's. I have 30K miles on them with sport dampers, the free camber mod up front and a 22mm alta bar in the rear. Dampers are still in good shape but I have always planned to get Bilstien Sport dampers when they finally go. If you are concerned about an increased harshness to the ride it is quite the opposite. The car really behaves itself much better with this inexpensive change It fixes the things that are bothering you now (the pothole ricochet effect, the pitching fore and aft under heavy braking and acceleration, that feeling that you don't know which end is going to break loose as you approach the limit). Ride is smoother than stock and raises the bar for how hard you can push the car.
