Suspension Bad pillow ball bearing symptom
Bad pillow ball bearing symptom
Hi,
Do anyone have experince on the bad bearing on pillow ball?
I installed BC coilovers which came with adjustable camber plates on my car, lately it making noise clunking noise and my car steering/handling become worse when on a hot day (if cold, it seem better little bit) - the steering wander, steering pulling to the left/right and right/left, tires have uneven wear, steering hard to turn to right but easy when turning left. When doing U-turn, the steering seem doesnt return to center without any help.
So I decided to spray WD-40 on top of the camber plates/bearing, the clunking noise gone and the car handling/steering seem better a bit...
What do u think? Do bad bearing on pillow ball causes those?
Thanks

Could be part of the problem I just changed mine yesterday. If the pillow mount is bad it will let the shock move side to side and up and down creating a clunk and vibration. take the lower shock bolt out and see if you can move the shock up and dow n or side to side or see if the top mount nut just needs tightened up. Also could be your lower control arm bushing as well.
stuff
Ive got the same issue, mostly on my right front. Its driving me nuts, makes my car sound like a huge pile. I replaced both upper pillow mounts last year. It seems like my noise gets louder in the cold. Kinda thought it might be the sway bar links.
Pillow Ball mount availablility
Hi. I finally took my camber plates off because I was told that the clunking sound was the pillow ball mounts. I searched and searched and could not find where to source them.
Where did you find them?
Thanks,
Lee

If your pillow-ball mounts in your camber plates went bad you should be able to see the movement. Check to see if you can see the ball moving around in the bearing. Does BC have a warranty on the coilovers? Could you get the bearing replaced under warranty? If not then you'll probably need to pay to have new ones pressed in. You can get them from Aurora if you know the dimensions... http://www.aurorabearing.com/index.html
Kind of surprised they failed so quickly. Did you have an alignment done after the coilover install?
Also, are the BC upper mounts solid mounts? Might consider swapping them for some IE fixed mounts or something with some poly in it to take up some of the shock from hitting potholes and stuff. Hopefully that will allow the bearing to last longer. I've also had Vorshlag tell me that if the bearing failed it's probably because the top nut wasn't tight enough.

i had the same problem with the pillow ball. i have a set of megans (which are kinda the same) and a friend of mine who is a head mechanic said that bc the pillow ball is metal dirt and road debris can get inside and you need to put a lot of oil in them to clean and lube them. so take wd-40 or some other kinda of oil and soak the pillow ball mounts. hopefully that will help.
