I've been thinking of putting H-Sport springs on my MCS, but am curious... anyone have problems getting a jack under there after lowering?

I've got H&R's and The bottom of the lift points are only 4.5" off the floor. I've to drive my car up on a piece of 2x6 to get the clearance needed for the jack that I've got.

Anyone know of a compact floor jack that gets down to 3.5" to 4"?

The Harbor Freight Jack will have no problem sliding under lowered MINIs.

Harbor freight rocks for cheap and relatively durable Chinese tools!

Especially great when you need a tool for just one use and don't want to pay Craftsman or Snap-on prices!

The aluminium floor jacks (all made from the same castings - price $100-200) fit a lowered car just fine if you insist on using the jack pads. Any floor jack will work if placed just behind or in front of the pads.

Have the H-Sport and the harbor freight racing jack as well. No Probelms. If you check Harbor freight right now I know the jack can be bought for around $120 a great price. I also use the rhino ramps got mine at Pep Boys for $15. Between those two I can almost do anything.

Good Luck, You'll enjoy your H-Sports, Love mine.

I have the H-sport springs (lowers the MINI one inch front and rear) on an MCS and use the aluminum racing jack from Checkers- roughly $165 on sale or $199 with two aluminum jack stands. The jack works just fine.

HR springs are a bit lower and the racing jack doesn't fit- you'll have to drive the MINI onto some 2x6 pieces of lumber to increase the height enough to get the jack under the car.

since we're on the subject of jacking up a car, where do you use to
jack up the front and the rear respectively?

Thanks.

The support for the front suspension is a raised box of metal in the floor (ok actually it is a lowered box) that runs just inside the jack points. If you go to the end of the box you can jack the entire side of the car in 1 shot. ScottBRG amazed me when he did this to my mini for the swaybar install.

Another vote for the Harbor Freight jack, and I find that when I use the front jack point it will lift the entire side of the car with no worries. I did this when I changed my brakes, and again when I did the H&R springs.

If I'm putting it on stands (with the stands supporting the 4 jack points) then I put a piece of 2x4 under a square section of steel just inboard of the front jack point about 3-5 inches. (It's a box-section channel that runs longitudanally)

That's enough to get the entire side of the car in the air high enough to get the jack stands in. If I'm just rotating tires I'll put the jack under one of the normal jack points.

So can you still use the Rhino ramps unassisted, or do you need the 2x6 for those as well?

thanks!

You can get a lowered MINI up the Rhino Ramps without any rubbing/dragging on the ramp (no 2x6's required). I have done this many times with the H&R springs and those drop the car a little lower than the H-sport springs.
