Lifting

So I am picking up a 2002 S with H&R Coilovers with lowering springs, basically I can barely squeeze my finger in between the tire and the fender lip. I am going to be using this as a daily driver, so I want to lift it back to stock.

I don't have a part number for the struts, does anyone know if I I can put stock springs back in or if H&R sells springs that are stock height to work with their struts?

Or would it be cheaper to go stock and just install both new struts and springs.

Any value to these struts and springs or should I just trash them, they have about 50k on them.

Thanks!

Have you checked to see where the ride height is set on the coilovers?
If they are spun down a little just crank them up it shuld be closer to stock height, without buying anything.

I'm not sure if H&R sells different springs for their coilovers but, you might want to try Swift or Hyperco springs if they dont. You can also talk to Keith at Werkin MINI, he would know a little more.

Congrats on the new car!

Good point on the adjusting, I was assuming only the dampers could be adjusted, not the height, I will look into that first!

If you live in SoCal and need stock parts then let me know. I will swap them out for you as well in order to trade with stock parts.

you could do this yourself if you have a jack. its EXTREMELY easy. if you dont have the key/tool thing call up one of the distributors and as if you can buy one. im sure it wouldnt be much. all you have to do is take off the tire and youll see to nuts on the shock, just raise them...

Quoted for truth. It should be very easy to adjust your coilovers, as you live in California so they are not likely to have siezed up.

You should know, that after you raise your car to a height you like, you will need to have it aligned again as the camber will have changed.

It's very easy to raise the car as soopercooper said. You will need an alignment afterwards though. The perch that the springs sit on can be raised on the threaded portion of the strut body. On new coilovers it's easy to do by hand but on old ones that have been through a winter or two, it might be tough. Coilovers usually come with a spanner wrench to help. Check with H&R if it's too tough to do by hand.

The H&R coilovers at their highest setting are still fairly low I think, but it's worth a shot.

I would also like to exchange my stock springs + dampers for your coilovers. I'll quietly get in line though. :(
