Rear Trailing Arm Bushing

On my 05/2003 MCS My trailing arm bushings are shot, especially after 102k miles. Looking to replace them, and on the cheap. I know powerflex makes the insert, but for me that just seems like a band-aid, and the factory are $100/each. (not to bad really)

Before i bought just factory new ones, i was just curious if anyone had/has any experience with these from Bav-auto: http://www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?par...urce=N62636BAV

There is a kit online made by whiteline as well, but are over double the money.

Install looks to be very much like the front ones.

Input welcome, thanks !

Those are the control arms. He is referring to the arms that the brake and suspension components attach to.

Ken, did you make a decision yet? Curious if you tried Whiteline... They are quite popular with other makes, just not for us...

I see them selling for about $160. In their catalog, it says for "Trailing arm - front". Not sure if we are talking about what we want here. The image on this ebay ad looks right though:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/White...#ht_1250wt_937

The catalog (and this ad) state good for 2001 and up, and this part changed in mid 2003 as I recall. That's concerning... Whitline references it as part # W62636...

The Bavarian is more affordable, that's for sure. I was hoping to see an option for 100% urethane. Maybe the ones from Whiteline are...

I did, and i just ordered some completely factory ones. After getting the old ones off, they actually are still in good shape, and getting new upper shock bushings made the biggest difference * i think *.

Playing around with settings w/ in BAV auto, shows that their bushings only work the earliest mounts. I assume the same to be true for the whitelines, b/c they look identical to the BAV auto ones.

And i think as far as complete bushings replacements, we are out of luck on the later cars. While the material is strong as a whole, i think serious warping would occur if you try to press the old bushing/sleeve out of the housing/carrier.

Thanks for the prompt follow-up. I think I'll just order the BA ones for 75 bucks. Besides the performance improvement due to less slop, I really want something that should last a long time so I won't have to dork with them again...

I tend to be skeptical of items that go on clearance, especially so soon. Makes one wonder if there was something wrong with them. Then maybe not... I know that Partsman likes his.

Thanks again.

If you are the later bushing design, the BAV auto bushings will not work. If you have the earlier ones, then i look forward to your follow-up. BTW 05-03 (May 2003) is the time of the swap. On another forum, there were photos posted to show you the difference if there was any question.

I saw a couple threads here on the topic, so I felt pretty certain these would work for me. I have the first production week for 2003, so Sept 2002. I just ordered them...

I'm not so sure how I'll press these out / in at home, but I hope to figure something out. I generally do... I currently have the inserts in the trailing arm bushings, so I will put those up for sale soon... I'm also doing the front control arms bushings too (poly), along with new tires and a full alignment, so the overall change should be noteworthy. I might replace some ball joints, but I'll check them as I go. Not related, but I have new SC belt coming later in the week, so I'll be plenty busy.

Hope your install goes well.
