Suspension Tire Pressure Monitors
Tire Pressure Monitors
I have a 2004 MCS with OEM 16's right now. I have a tire pressure warning light on the dash and a button under the parking brake. My question though is how does the system work? I thought they used TPS monitors in the wheels, but a friend of mine was saying that it works off of the ABS sensors and not dedicated monitors on the rims.
I just order a set of new 17" Konig wheels and need to know if I have to buy TPS's for the new rims as well.
Thanks,
James

The R53 ('02-'06 MCS) uses the ABS sensors to detect tire pressure (there are NO sensors in the wheels). The R56 generation ('07 and newer) does use sensors in the wheels. Your '04 definitely does not have sensors in the wheels.
Let me ask this, I am buying a set of used 17 inch wheels with tires from a fellow mini owner. They may or may not have the sensors in them I didn't even think to ask. If they don't how will that effect my 07 coopers BC system will it register them or not?
