Dust Shields?

For those of you running Big Brake Kits...do you leave your OEM brake dust shields on or take them off? It looks like they sort of have ducting for airflow in them.

I am running TSW's MDM kit and love it...but would be easier to maintain w/o those shields in place

I don't have dustshields on my Wilwood kit. Obviously the brake dust is definitely more noticeable but I don't have any issues with heat right now.

Guess my only concern is the wheel speed sensor wire melting on the track

As long as you have it zip-tied away from anything hot, you should be good. There are many people running without dustshields on their MINI and I don't think anyone else has run into issues.

Dust shield does not fit behind TSW BDM BBK.

Ya that is a wider rotor then the MDM. The MDM does fit..but requires some encouragement bending the shield a bit in places where it would rub.

I just left it on for now since there is no rubbing

I do not use the dust shields with TCE/Wilwood 13" BBK.
I used temperature paint to get an idea of rotor and hub temps. The hubs did not even register a color change so at least with my BBK I am not worried about the hub area getting to hot because it appears the rotors dissipate the heat very well.

Those of you that have taken the shields off, do you still have them and would you want to sell them? If so I am looking for a set (both left and right sets) bear minimum the left set. If interested please reply and send a pic so I can make sure they match up. THANKS.

Call them what you want...

but they are not dust shields. They are there to keep the debris off the rotor, and from getting between the rotor and the pad on the inner side. They keep some water off the rotor as well, so in rain and the like, you get faster braking, as there is less water to get off the disks. The price paid is heat retention.
