Suspension Few Questions?
Few Questions?
I am planning on installing a set of Megan Racing coilovers, Powerflex bushings, Rear and front H and R sway bar. Tower strut bar and rear strut bar.
My question is: is the powerflex bushings worth the money. Will I feel a big differnce than stock.
Do I need to rasie my car in the winter?
How are is it to rasie it if I need to?

I want coilovers for the ability to raise in winter. Granted, id like to go lower in the summer, im plowing during the winter months. car is also more squirrely in the slick stuff with it lowered.
it doesnt necessarily bottom out, but anything over 3-4" youll hear it 'cleaning' the bottom of the car.

I have run a lot of low cars. 74 Pinto was the lowest factory car of it's day. It was only about 3 and a half off the ground at the exhaust. My Spit was lower as it was set for autocross, about 2 1/2 inches off the ground. Needless to say, never drove it in the snow. I did high-center once in a Saab Sonnet in Boulder. I would not lower a car that much, as one still has to clear speed bumps and driveways. If you can do that, then you probability don't have a snow problem. If it is that bad, don't drive. Also remember, you have about four inches bump in the rear, buy only about two and a half in the front. Drop very much and you will be on the stops, a very dangerous situation for street driving. This ain't NASCAR.
For street use, I was thinking more like 3/4 inch. But then again, I am concerned with poise of handling, not looks or ultimate fast.
Poise and quick. You are not quick when hitting bump-stops. Tires must be in contact with the road to provide grip. I guess I am quite conservative. Same with running too much less offset. Sure wider track is a big help, but it is rough on bearings and changes the steering geometry.
We are all second guessing professionals who have built a lot more cars than we have. Sometimes they do just get it wrong. 65-67 Mustangs mounting the upper arm in the wrong place, my RSX rear upper link mounted too high, Pinto racks too low. But usually, they have their reasons. They may have considered things you have not thought of. I am not against mods by far. I have modded the chassis of almost every car I have ever owned. I just prefer thinking first at a system level. Understand the total effect of your change before doing what looks cool in the advertisement.
