suspension upgrades

I'm currently running stock "sport" suspension and s-lites with 205/45-17's. My new wheels will be here in a couple weeks (special order, top secret!!) I'm thinking going with 215/40-17. My concern is the slight increase in wheel gap with a smaller side wall.

So I plan on going with a coilover setup, I'm leaning towards megan racing coils since the fronts come with the adjustable camber plates.

My only concern is the rears. Do I need adjustable rear control arms?? What about sway bar links or is that only if I upgrade to a bigger sway bar?

I'm just curious what is necessary. Even with my sport suspension my rears look like I'm running a little negative camber.

If you lower the car you should have adjustable rear control arms to adjust your camber or you will go thru tires quickly.

TSW makes a nice set for our New England weather......salt/sand from winter driving they can take a real beating around here.

I was planning on the TSW control arms. Just trying to decide on coilovers. I was originally going to go with H&R, but I would have to buy camber plates for the front. Thats why Im thinking about Meagan Racing coilovers.

Once I make my decision on what coilovers, I'll have to get some quotes from different shops.

Here's my list so far:
Megan or BC coilovers (Not really sure at this point which ones)
H&R 19mm rear sway bar
TSW rear control arms

My only concern now is the swaybar endlinks. Which brands are good?? There's ALTA at the cheapest ($119) there's a brand called Whiteline which looks similiar to the alta's ($135) and then there's TSW ($150)
I'm guessing I should get them for all for corners and not just the rear.

Damn this is starting to add up!! In parts I'm right around $1680, probably another $300-$400 to get everything installed. Taking me over $2000 on suspension mods.....I hope its worth it. ha ha

I have mine just for the rear and I have no complaints running my setup that way! I bought the Alta product and I love them. Great adjustable product and definitely worth the extra cash. Post up how you like the TSW RCA when you get them installed. I have been thinking of installing some this summer.

OK, a few parts have been ordered. I ordered the front and rear swaybar endlinks. I went with alta because they were the cheapest (on sale!!) and I ordered my H&R rear swaybar. TSW doesnt have their control arms on their website, so I sent them an email. I know AutoXCooper has them for $219+shipping

I'm going to be ordering the BC coilovers in the the next couple days.

Funny how the larger items (coilovers and swaybar) I get free shipping. But the small stuff (endlinks and control arms) I end up paying around $24 for shipping....still that aint bad

I was about to say, get the TSW endlinks. They are freakin STOUT. That and the Altas have been known to break, so IMO, return the Altas, and pay the little extra for the TSWs, you WILL NOT be sorry.

BC coilovers are Megan, one in the same company, just different logos and colors. BC supposedly last longer, so thats the better choice.

In general if TSW doesnt have something on their site, then they are currently out of stock, and considering what those arms are...no surprise.

GL w/ everything, and if you are just a little mechanically inclined, tackle the install on your own. You will save a decent chunk of change, and you and some buddies could have fun in the process.

I think the alta's will be fine, they are hopefully stronger then stock and thats all I need. I dont ever plan on autox my car

Yeah I figured they were the same....I dont know, I just like the black and gold colors compared to the grey and orange. They just look like a higher end product.

I feel Im mechanically incline enough that I could probably do this. I just think it would be easier to take it somewhere. I might do the swaybar and have someone do the coilovers for me. The whole suspension tuning thing is what frightens me

The coilovers are easier then the swaybar or atlest on par. "Tuning" is going to need to done at an alignment job anyways, so save yourself the $200+.

And I would trust the stock endlinks more then I would the Altas. Not to mention the altas (and any of the heim joint designs) are pretty noisey little things, not so w/ the TSWs.

UPS man came today....yeah!!! But just a sneak peek My wheels that I have been waiting for about 5 months are finally here. Along with my H&R rear swaybar and my alta endlinks were delivered yesterday. (Yeah, yeah I know, not everyones favorite)
But here is my thought: everyone (mostly)complains about the heim joint designs, how they tend to become noise. How hard would it be to change the joints to a diffent style?? like the ball-stud joints like powergrid, tsw and wmw. Yes they might have better "ends" but I think the middle section just looks like a medal rod.05-08-2010 08:41 PM
