Yeah well I'm in total agreement with you Dustin but unfortunately I was just informed of this event yesterday and dont think I can get a set of pads and rotors or even just pads at this point in time to install and have ready for the track next sunday. Installation would only be possible by friday at the latest. But I do realize having the correct pads/rotors is the ideal way to attend any track/autocross event.
Thanks for the input though and yes....safety is overall #1

Steve

Big IF, but IF I can get the XP8 fronts in your hands by/before Friday Nov 7th do you want to order them? I'll check with CT 1st thing Monday if you want them. Would you do the install?

well ideally I would say yes but the registration plus membership runs almost $350 then add some TSW rotors $220 track pads $170 street pads $150 that's another $550 plus a helmet $250+ and I just dropped $1075 on BC coilovers last month for the dragon so I really can't swing all that money right now so looks like I'll have to wait till next spring and a new race season...at least I'll get a full year for the $44 membership fee. Thanks alot for the offer Dustin...that really means something to me and shows your eagerness to help us Mini owners out

Oh yeah the install....I've done pads and rotors on every car I've owned including quite a few Toyota's when I worked at a dealership as an entry mechanic but I think I remember reading on here somewhere that pads on this car are not exactly straightforwards...something about some special tool needed or something??? maybe I'm wrong but assuming its pretty straightforward yeah I would do my own install as I've installed everything else on my car on my own in my driveway.

yes, you will have significant fade and it will definitely effect your whole track experience....it's really not much fun going fast when you feel that you can't stop!!

Safety is the key issue before, during and after the track event. You take street/OEM pads the track they will fade or fail. If they fade, you miss out on the track experience, they fail you it may end your track day early and there are no refunds on track days.

Why not get the right pads for the right event, think of it as insurance for your Track Day, MINI and YOU. Insurance against the above issues or pads failing on the way home and/or wearing out early and finding out about it too late.

Pads and rotors are like tires and gas, part of the cost of doing track events and like tires, your pads and rotors are the 1st level of safety to protect yourself and your investment in your MINI, oh yea and any others that might be in your way when your street or OEM pads fail.

Safety 1st my Friends
thanks for clarifying for those who may not have known. i gave this experience as an example of what can happen with street/auto cross pads at the track

steve, pm sent

If it's your first or any track event please bleed your brakes before you go. Depending on how hard you drive your car you should be fine for your first event. With it being your first event don't focus so much on your brakes unless they really just go to the floor after two laps. Just listen to your instructor and focus on the line and being smooth. If your really hard on your brakes (not possible on your first event)A full flush is what every club requires for you pre-tech. if you're gonna use a stock set up and you've done this before be prepared to bleed your brakes at lunch both days and at the end of the first day. It only takes 5 minutes a corner and you'll be fine just doing the fronts at the track.

thanks everyone for the input its much appreciated...unfortunately weighing in all the expenses of just being able to attend the event and actually participate the entire day its way too much money for me to spend after dropping almost 1300 a month ago on coilovers and control arms so looks like I'll have to wait till next year and in the mean time can save up some money and get some decent equipment that will last me a little while and not rush into buying anything just to make it to this event.
