Control Arms

Good afternoon all, just had Danny at Minicorsa do a little suspension
work the other day.H&R springs,Alta rear bar 22mm and IE fixed camber
plates. The ride and stance are great Went to the alignment shop
for a 4 wheel alignment and wound up with front numbers for camber, left
of -1.5 & right -1.7 the rears wound up left -2.4 & right -3.5 way to much
rear camber Need some help. of all the rear control arms out there
who makes the best control arm for street driven car ? Thanks

Wow, that is huge rear camber for just springs. I'm continually amazed at the crazy tolerances we get with MINIs.

As far as control arms, any brand ought to work, but you'll probably want some that aren't heim joints, as they get noisy and wear out pretty quickly on street cars. On the other hand, Helix's redesigned arms are heim but sealed with rubber gaskets, so I'd assume longer lasting.

I don't take my own advice, have a set of heim joint control arms, and have had them for about a year. They're still functioning properly, but make clunky noises over bumps.

I have 4 IE street control arms. They work well and give the rear adjustability I bought them for. But they have started to squeak. Not a big deal for me, it's just a pain to undo them to grease. There are some arms out there that have zerg fittings, I do not recall which ones though.

So, are the H-Sport control arms the most streetable? Are there any control arms that are just install and forget? Something like H&R for swaybars, no greasing or anything needed...

I track the car nearly every month and have had no issues with mine. Been on the car almost a year now.

Look suspiciously like the H-Sport. Does Hotchkis make them?

I sell alot of the Hotchkis sets. They work really well and the don't squeak. Plus they are easy to adjust for your alignment.

I bought a set of H-sport control arms and they work great ! No noise, easy to grease if needed and make no noise. I went with the H-sports after using a set of Alta control arms with heim joints.

Thanks for the info guys! Looks like H-Sport control arms are next on the list. But, AFTER the coilover install because I just can't wait any longer

Also consider the newly designed helix control arms:

They are now powder coated and weatherproof. They also cost a bit less than the H-sports.

Hmm, do they squeak? That is my main concern, I don't track the car or auto-x so I'm not too concerned with one of these things snapping. I'm going to adjust them once to like -1.5 camber just for looks and I won't touch them again. Hence why I want a set that won't squeak.

Had a good talk with Dustin of Auto X Cooper last night and picked his
brain about Megan control arms, and pulled the trigger and ordered a lower
set last nite, is anyone else using these control arms and are you happy
with them.

That's when I got mine. Like I said they work fine and I've had no issues. I recommend you do pick up a set.

I put mine on this spring and have been very happy with them so far. Much more street tolerable than the hemi based arms I had on before.

so here's my question...with the control arms mounted up (any brand that's adjustable) can i actually dial in the rear end so the rear tires don't wear as fast? I drive pretty aggressively BUT I also put on the majority of miles while going STRAIGHT...almost entirely Interstate travel. At this point, I've got 105K on the odometer...I've owned it for a little over 2 years.

SPC have to be the beefiest control arms for the MINI I have seen. Been running them for a year and love them. Lots of adjustment in them to adjust rear camber!

Yes you will be able to get the tires to wear much better with a set of adjustable arms.

minilites, to answer your question, I think the Megans are great. I like them and they are easy to adjust yourself. I got mine from Dustin to.
jlloyd, I just took most of the camber out of the rear to make my tires last longer. Like I said above, it was easy to change the camber.

Looking at this thread, I didn't see anything about the Alta rear control arms. Are they any good whatsoever for a daily driven mini?
