Suspension 19mm Rear Sway Bar H-Sport vs. H&R vs. Alta?
I know it's an odd question....but do any of the gen.2 rear sways provide a little more clearance away from the rear springs? As it sits stock, the sway is less than half an inch from the rear springs.
I'm working on a custom suspension and the rear's diameter is slightly larger than stock so I was hoping that perhaps the shape of the aftermarket sways would allow a bit more clearance....I know some of them have slightly different angle bends to them.

I think tirerack.com has the best price on the H-Sport 19mm bar.
I couldn't tell you for the track, but the stiffer the rear sway bar (without changing the front) the more oversteer you get. Supposedly, lots of oversteer is useful for AutoX. IIRC, one person who raced an R56 thought the neutral handling of the stock suspension was quite good for track.
I've come to think that adding a sway bar for steet driving is not such a great idea.

I know ours work with all of the current coilovers on the market. One thing you COULD do is change the endlink length based on ride height to move it farther away from the point of contact.
Let me know if I can help further!
When you say GEN II do you mean the R56 cars vs. the R53 or do you mean the latest ALTA sways? Just curious.

The suspension I'm working on is a slightly large diameter than coilovers too.
I have thought about the endlink thing...I'll have to see how much room I have.
Keep me posted on if I can help!
I've got the 22mm solid bar on the back and on the stiff setting it was *wild* back end all over the place, on the soft setting it was quite managable.
I depends on how you drive as to how much trouble you'll get into
I am wondering how close the hollow 19mm will be to the solid 17mm SS+ comes with ?
Probably not a whole lot...
I'd say got with a bigger bar ( 22mm ) with three adjustment settings...

It is yes. If it wasn't then of course it would have interference issues. I may be able to take photos of any concerned areas if you need me too. Just let me know!
We just did my bar and used a strip of teflon that is about 1/16" thick. The rubber bushings were shaved down inside to allow them to fit. They will be MUCH more durable than regular plumbers' teflon tape.
KOOL! Glad that worked out!
Yes, indeedy, and thanks to Paul, prez of our USMINI Club, for coming up with this material for the fix. He's done a few (formally) squeaky bars with this stuff.
He has been a great client for years!
so..what is the final verdict on placing a 19mm sway on a r56 for non-track, just street fun?? Is it needed? Is the stock pretty good? Will I tell a big difference in the street twisties or should I put my money elsewhere??
So in my opinion it is needed, but others may disagree. they also combo well with a good set of lowering springs to lower the center of gravity.
PLEASE let me know how I can help in anyway further!
not much.
That's why I'm considering the 22mm instead of the 19mm for mine. I've got new Alta end links on the way. I'll see if those make much of a difference and if not, I'll go with the Alta 22mm bar with a greaseable bushing kit from Minspeed.

I have the H&R 19mm on my S and I like it. I have it on the softer setting. I also have fixed camber plates so I now have -1.9 f and -1.2 r. For street driving I like this setup. Adding front grip with the camber plates made the biggest improvement. The rear comes out just a bit before the front pushes. Considering that a stiffer rear bar reduces rear grip I would not go more than 19mm for street driving. Losing the rear end on a tight canyon road is not the thing you want to have happen.

ALSO bonus, on sale for $50 off! Yowzaaa
Your chart compares it to a 17mm bar, but we have 18mm's with the sport suspension package. I don't know the engineering of it, but if the difference in stiffness between 17mm and 19mm for the 3 positions is 115%, 140% and 177% can I extrapolate that the difference between 18mm and 19mm for the 3 positions would be 107.5%, 120% and 138.5%?
And then what would be the differences between an 18mm and a 22mm? I'm thinking that the 22mm on the softest setting would be what I'm looking for, but I'd love to see the numbers first.
Thanks,
Chris
