Going to try FSDs with Tein S Techs...anyone else?

Howdy,

I've done some research on this w/o luck. I have Tein S Techs on my stock 05 MCS. I love the look but the bouncy ride is starting to get to me. Santa brought me FSDs and I am torn on whether to run stock springs or the Teins. I have read you are not supposed to run FSD w/lowering springs and also that some have doen this with success.

I have not found any info on my proposed combo. Anyone hear anything? I am also considering a more modest lowering spring if the end result was better than the Teins

Thank you,

Erik

How far do the Teins drop? If more than 3/4" I would suggest that you stick with the stock springs. You will enjoy the ride much more and extend the life of the FSD's.

Since you already have the lowering springs, you may want to consider the Koni Yellows or Bilstein SPs. Both are probably a better match to the drop and rate from the tein springs.

FSDs, as stated from Koni, are designed to work with the stock springs. There plenty folk here who do run the FSDs with lowering springs. Hopefully they will report their findings after 40k or so of usage.

Am I a suspension expert? I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.

Yeah, I've read the warnings about lowering springs and FSDs. But I'm hoping the modest drop of the Teins (1") will work OK with them. I am pretty good at wrenching so I may just give it a shot and see how it goes.

I hear you on the longevity of this set up. I am fortunate to commute 3 miles each way. My 05 MCS only has 12k miles on it

With a one inch drop you really wont be getting the full benefit of the FSD's tho. You may actually have a worse ride. If at all possible try the FSD's with the stock springs first. You will be amazed at the ride. And if you can live with a bit more wheel gap........

I have about 10k on my FSD and TSW (1st gen) springs with a few track days and the ride is as good as it was the first day.

What is the drop on your TSW springs?

Sure. But yellows or SPs are the better choice for lowering springs IMO. The yellows are adjustable so you can match the spring rate. The SPs can be revalved based on the spring rates. One other thing to look out for the increase of rear camber from the drop. Adjustable lower control arms for the rear might be in order. isn't modding fun?

Remember my advice is worth what you paid for it.

Well, I had a last minute change of heart and installed the STOCK springs with the FSDs. After letting the car down I was a little bummed to see the ride height back to normal......though the front spoiler will be happy.

I took it out for a test drive and I felt a difference right off the bat. This one turn near the house would have to car wollowing and now it's super smooth. One good dip that used to get my head to bounce off the roof in now a muted thump.

I'll have to push it some over the next few days to get a better feel for the set up.

Put the lowering springs on and be happy. I love my H-sport's with FSD's.
