235s on a R56!

Randy Webb made this post in the vendor announcements:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=121363

He said we can use 8" wheels and 235 width tires. Hmm.. Look out traction!

edit:

can't seem to find DOT slicks that are 235 wide...

lots of Dot slicks that are 235/40/17, try BF Goodrich, TOYO R888 and the Hankook i believe. But on they will rub the inside shock shaft. Check what grassroots motorsports did to the trailing arms at a auto cross with R56 on 17x7 42et.

17 x 8 with a 40/38 et and a 235 street tire would not be bad. Team dynamics supplies that size no issues.

You won't get any rubbing with the Toyo RA1 in a 235/40-17 using a 38mm offset 17x8". You must have the right offset!

Hope that helps!
Randy

Thanks for the data point Randy! I hope all is well with you! By the way, what wheel are you running that's a 17x8 et38? It seems like it would be a rare find in a 4x100.

Interesting, but you really need a 8" width on the wheel for optimal mounting of a 235mm tire....

On Outmotoring.com it shows the 17x8 TDR 1.2 with the option of a 37mm offset. Would that work? RandyBMC you said a 38mm. I don't know alot about wheel offsets, but do you think they would work?

It's only a 1mm difference. If randy's fit, the 37mm wheels would fit as well.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I am interested in running 235/40/17 tires on an R56. The information I have gathered so far suggests that if these tires are installed on Team Dynamics Pro Racing 1.2 wheels in the 17x8 size with +38 offset, there should not be any rubbing issues on stock suspension or mildly lowered R56s. With the +38 offset, I would like to know how much the 235 tire will extend outward away from the fenders. Anyone has some pictures of a similar setup?

Well if I'm not mistaken the challenge cars run quite a low drop with 235 full slicks on 17x7.5 wheels, with a 38 offset

It should be noted that they also run a pretty heinous amount of camber which helps fitment a great deal

I have got about -2.1 degree camber in the front and about -1.7 degree camber in the rear. I also have the JCW suspension and don't plan to go any lower. May I assume no rubbing with 17x8 wheels with +38 offset?

The other thing is I am interested in running 235/40/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires on these wheels. I am quite impressed with the 205/45/17 size of this tire. I read Bridgestone tires tend to run wide for their size. So I am worried the 235 size of this tire may cause rubbing. If anyone is running the 235/40/17 size of this tire, I would like to hear from you!

So where did you get those SSR wheels from? TireRack does not show any SSR wheels available for R56s.

Also, do these wheels bolt right on? Any modifications necessary? Some more info please!

TireRack still appears to have the SSR Type C wheel in the 17x7.5 size with +37mm offset for Mazda Miatas. They are on closeout sale and the price is good too. Do you think this wheel with this offset will fit an R56 and still clear the JCW brakes?

I am running 235/40/17 Star Spec on a 17x7 et40 with Eibach lowering springs and the rears did rub. I took my air saw and trimed the lip on the plastic fenders off and then they rubbed till the tire wore its path through the fenders. Now it all fits nicely. The tires you guys are using on an 8" wide wheel with et38 must have a much narrower thread block or much more rounded off shoulders that the star specs.
The 17x8 et38 wheel would stick out 14.5mm more than the wheels I am but may be not actually pulling the tire out with it since on 7" my tires are a little "ballooned" out as you can see from my gallery.
