It was a few months ago, and I was not really concerned with what others had to say. The only thing I was concered with was having my question answered. And I passed along what I was told. I would challenge anyone to remember a conversation word for word between four or more people that happened a few months ago. Shame on me for not being able to do that!!

I always thought the purpose of ride height adjustable coil overs was to set your ride height where you want it, get it corner balanced, and then be done with it. Unless you weight 300lbs and go on a extreme diet to 100lbs, there should be no need to corner balance the car again... unless you replaced your e-brake handle with a sweet sweet lightweight carbon fiber piece, in which case corner balancing would be neccessary 3 times over! hurr.

Im not concered with ride height. I'll set it about an inch lower and leave it. And i'll go with a conservative alignment setup. But I want to be able to quickly change the damping settings front and rear. I do a lot of hard driving in the canyons around where I live. It's really fun to be able to fine tune your suspension for different roads and conditions. And for long trips it's nice to use a soft setting. I have always had this setup with the other cars I have owned and it really works great. I currently have this setup on my newly aquired mint condition '95 Civic hatchback Si. It takes me about 2 minutes to adjust the damping. I adjust them before I hit the canyons, after I am done and some times while I am out there.

I'm not one to stand on a soapbox to defend MiniNuts but you are wrong in this instance. The person that started this thread is not a member and none of the more vocal MiniNuts has chimed into this rehash of old news. Sure there are some folks over at MiniNuts that have it in for M7 but not all of us have the same degree of disdain. Thats right I said us, I am a member there as well. BTW, when posting a link to a site such as MiniNuts you had better warn people it is NSFW (not safe for work) and may contain language and images that they would not want their children, Rabbi, Pastor and possibly spouse to see and read.

As to whole debate on these coilovers let them stand or fail on their own merits. This entire county of origin BS has been beat to death.

In full disclosure I have some M7 parts on my car, I've also taken some that proved useless or even detrimental to my goals off and sold them explaining why I've removed them. I do not use M7 coilovers but another brand as they suit my needs better.

I guess he thinks this whole thing is funny.

Someone PMed me and made a good point. I don't even know who Mininuts is. I quickly read the previous thread but I didn't really pay close attention to who was saying what, and if it was off topic, I did't bother to read the whole thing. I have no affiliation with Mininuts and if I had mininuts, I would keep it to myself.

I need to take something back.

I remember it well because I was really interested in these. But, I was a little pissed that M7 was not complying with the Country Of Origin Law which requires that the product be labeled with the country of origin.

It was the first Saturday of the month, I think July, at the Coogies beakfast run on PCH in Malibu. I and some other people were standing in front of Peter's **** yellow '07 Cooper S. Peter gave me one of his coilovers to hold and look at. I noticed right away the poor build and material quailty. The treads were burred, the finish was uneven with silver showing through the black in some places, the mount had 2 tiny, poor quality welds holding it on, and I could barely feel the detents in the adjuster. My exact words to Peter were, "where are these things made?" I don't remember his first exact answer. I was something like, "I can not divulge that information." Then, someone standing around asked a question, but I can't remember the question. Then, someone else said something at about the same time as the last question, so I really didn't get what either person said. Then, Peter's exact words were, "the only thing I can tell you", and he said it as if he was doing us a big favor, "is they are not made in Asia." I believe he said that because someone mentioned Asia. Then someone said something, I don't remember what. then Peter said something to the effect that, "we looked into sourcing them from Asia but the quality was not good enough." I don't remember his exact words on the last quote.

I think it is really a shame. If he would have told us from the get go where these were made, I would have bought them. They are pretty inexpensive, so if I had a problem with one or two I could get them fixed, and they have all the features that I am looking for. The only thing I am worried about is their quality and longevity. But, Peter lied to us! But, no other coilovers have all the features I am looking for. So for now my Cooper S has OEM suspension and I don't know what to do about it. And that sucks!
In the original post, I said, "Peter lied to us!" That was unfair for me to say that. There could be a # of good reasons why Peter said that. Maybe he is dealing with a middle man who wouldn't tell him the origin. maybe he doesn't consider Korea as Asia. So I apologise. My intent with the post is not to bash, but to pass on what I was told in order for people and myself to make the most informed decision possible.

I am really torn about these coilovers. On one hand. The quality looks bad (and I have enough experience with coilovers and materials to make that call), I didn't get the country of origin question answered, which was a red flag for me. And I didn't get other questions answered to my satisfaction. I can't get any feedback as far as lond term durability. On the other hand, I have said it before and I will say it again, I do like Peter and Randy. Although they are probobly not happy with me and I guess I can understand that and I am sorry. I have talked to him a few times, we have another interest in common, so it's nice to talk to him about that. I do think he is trying to provide us with the best products that he can. Some products have had some problems, that happens to the best of companies. And, Peter has done more for the Mini mod market them most people. Certainly a lot more then most of us combined. People who have these coilovers are reporting that they work very well and I have not heard of any failures.

I admit that I could be wrong about these. These coilovers could be like a previous GF of mine. She wasn't great to look at, I had no idea where she was from, but she was golden on the inside, and her performance was second to none with rock solid reliability!

But, at this point I dont feel comfortable enough to put down $1500 for these coilovers, another $500 to have someone install them for me. And who knows how much more if I have a problem. I have been stung in the past and I don't want it to happen again.

At some point I may feel comfortable buying these, I am open minded to that, but only time will tell, Ill just have to wait. I almost bought an '04 Cooper S, I am glad I waited. I almost bought the Megans, I'm so glad I waited. So, I will wait some more.

And guess what? I consider myself to be an average consumer!

$500 to install them? You could pay me 200 to install coilovers.....its a simple job. It's definitely a task you could take on yourself and save $500

I'll have my coilovers installed by the best suspension people in So. Cal. I'll tell you what, If that $200 includes alignment, corner balance, all the labor, and the trip to come to So. Cal., then PM me and I'll have you install them

The 500 makes more sense if it includes alignment and corner balancing....i was worried you were gonna pay 500 to just have them put on

If you are not a member of the MININUTS, then I am sorry to have accused you of being a part of that group. They are a bunch of people banned from NAM (for good reason) and spend their time trying to discredit Peter and M7 for the reasons that you stated.

As for Gnatster's point of their site being NSFW...this is true. I have seen some pretty horrid things in that den of inequity, but the link I posted WAS safe for work at the time...who knows, maybe they have added some nudity to the thread by now.

I've seen other things mentioned by these MININUTS.com members, and they are usually crass, crude and inflammatory.

Thats a pretty broad brush you wield Krassanova.

1. Not all members of MiniNuts have been banned from NAM. I am a member and obviously not banned on NAM. I'd imagine you would be surprised to find that some well respected people are members of both MiniNuts and NAM.

2. As a group we do more then try and discredit Peter and M7.

Life is full of plenty of horrid things, the postings on MiniNuts, while not always in good taste, pale to the comparison of what is truly horrid such as genocide in The Sudan.

that if you are a good driver and have a good suspension set up with the ability to fine tune, both from the suspension side and driver side you can do things with a car that you could never imagine possible. You can consistantly out pace cars 4 times more expensive then a Cooper S. But you can't do that if you can't fine tune. It is the most fun you can ever have! I have been doing it for a lot of years, and like the commercial says, It's, "Priceless".

This is so true, those of us that track our Mini's know it all to well. See this thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=114400 on how a properly set up suspension can shave lap times.

bilstein's don't require cutting to be able to adjust the rear dampers.
tein's won't either if you have the EDFC.
im not sure about the others.. but there are more options for coilovers with damper adjustment now. H&R, KW, Cross/JIC, Spax...

But they do have dedicated posts just for trashing M7 and anybody that uses NAM. Also the "Sudan" where the heck did this come from, now you sound like Hillary . Some call it entertaining, I call it immoral behavior, they way they treat women inparticular .

I think you are a new member, and you seem much more rational than some of the other folks i was referring to. The hardcore MININUTS. I am familiar with their mission, as I've witnessed many a thread get flushed down the toilet by their antics.
