What size of rear sway bar suitable for MINI ONE?

Hi all,

My 2004 MINI ONE CVT come with a stocked 16mm front sway bar. I'm thinking to install a rear sway bar, any idea what size to put? Also if I use the MCS front and rear sway bar on my ONE, do you think it will kill the car stocked suspension, spring, handling, etc?

Thanks alot

You could put a SS (standard Cooper) or SS+ (optional on Cooper, standard on Cooper S) sway bar on the rear and end up with reduced understeer and a greater tendancy towards lift-throttle oversteer. The SS+ will have a greater effect than the smaller SS bar. Or put both front and rear bars on and still have some understeer but corner flatter. It depends on what you are looking for. Either way, it would probably be cheapest to find a sway bar(s) that has been taken off of another car by someone going for a larger aftermarket one.

Good luck.

I would be very careful with the size of the rear sway bar with that very small front bar. The stock bars on the MC(22.5mm dia. front/16mm rear) and the MCS(24mm front/17mm rear), the front is 2.8 times stiffer than the rear on each. The 16mm front bar on your mini one is very small. If you go with just a rear bar, please be ready for a lot of oversteer. It could be scary!!!!

Good luck. All Mini Coopers rule!!!

Thanks for the reply. How abt front = 16mm and rear = 12mm ?? Any good? Also I would like to know if I use Cooper or MCS front and rear sway bar, will it kill my ONE (in term mechanical and handling) ? Sorry, I'm a car idiot... would like to confirm this.

Thanks

Changing to any of the stock swaybars won't have any impact mechanically.

Changing both front and rear to Cooper or Cooper S bars will improve handling, but not do anything wild if you go with matched sets (ie Cooper front and rear, or Cooper S (SS+) front and rear). Going to a SS+ rear bar with your One front bar will reduce understeer and increase oversteer more dramatically.

If you are just looking to improve the handling for street use only, go with factory combinations front and rear.

Cool, thanks. Now I no need to worry about damaging my OEM spring, suspension, etc aft changing the front and rear sway bar to Cooper or Cooper S (SS+). Thanks for the confirmation.
