Can't get the expantion tank cap off!

Today I was checking my oil level and topped up my headlight and windscreen washer tanks but when I tried to open the expantion tank the cap would not turn at all.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the cap off without breaking the expantion tank.
I've allready cut my finger trying.

A slip joint plier should do the trick. I have to use that when opening the cap on my brake fluid reservoir.

You may be able to ease your plight by wrapping a soaked towel around the cap - any gunk in the threads should absorb the water and make it easier to remove.

That or just wrap a towel around it and use a channel-lock on it.

Pick up a strap wrench at Sears or equiv... that'll do it.

Just like opening a jar of pickles--heat up the cap. Try a hair dryer--watch the temps. Good luck
