Here's my story, I don't think it sounds just like anything I've read so far. 2007 MCS, built in late June. Just over 1000 miles, I'm tooling down the interstate at 70 mph when the sound of the engine drops pitch all at once, about 2 notes. I hit the accelerator and there's no pickup like there usually is. I'm still going 70, but begin to slow going up hills. It picks up again slowly to 70. During a rather large hill the CEL comes on for the first time. I'm going to be going over a small mountain pass and I'm afraid I won't make it. When I exit and slow down, the engine runs terribly and dies at the stop sign. I can barely get it refired and pulled into a parking lot. I'm figuring at that time that it's the turbo has gone, but no smoke and no noise.

Called MINI rescue and get towed to my selling dealer. It's been there two weeks. Today I called and they've order new injectors that will have to come from overseas. No guarantee that will fix it.

I'm a pretty patient person, but I'm really missing my car and it seems like it's taking too long. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.

BTW, I was out trying to get through the break-in mileage so I could take it to my first track day the NEXT DAY. Had to pay $50 for late cancellation.

blah

I had my r56 MCSa for 5 months with 10600 miles. Today, i was leaving work and noticed that the engine light is on. I tried calling my service dept to make an appointment for tomorrow but of course the closest MINI dealer to me has some of worst service in the service dept. I was unable to make an appointment since no one answered the phone nor return my phone call. I don't have any problems accelerating or noticed any difference in my driving. Hopefully its nothing big. Also, today was the first time my MINI experience hard rain all day, so maybe that had some kind of effect on it.

I'm going to call them again tomorrow and my MA.

To top it off today, my dad side scraped my other car. What a great day for everything to happen.

MCS - just under 4000 miles...i'm on the highway doing about 75, all of a sudden i lose power, yellow engine malfunction light comes on..manual says "you may continue your journey, moderate your speed and have the engine checked asap"... i restarted my car and the engine light went off.....I dropped off the car at the dealer the next day...they don't know what caused the engine light...they are still looking into it

Well, actually, sometimes this can CAUSE the light if the cap isn't on tightly enough (needs to be past the clicks). If you didn't tighten it enough recently--a few fill-ups ago, say--it takes a while for the light to reset itself. If there isn't another problem just time alone might do the trick.

The "lose power" is the computer diagnosing a problem and putting your car into the "limp home" mode in order to hopefully prevent damage to the engine. When you stopped and restarted the computer didn't diagnose the problem, check engine light went off, and you're back to full power. The check engine light sets a code that stays set until reset by a technician, that will give them a place to start looking at what happened. Good luck.

update: i'm picking up my car tomorrow (i's been at the dealer since friday), MINI was unable to determine the cause of my engine light, so no repairs/update/fixes can be done

Start a journal and record all the facts... dates, what happened, who you talked to, what they said, what they did... Hopefully, it will not be needed, but it's good to have it documented if you ever have to pursue this further.

Good luck

Engine Light On

My 2007,MC,automatic had 3,000 miles on it the first time my engine light yellow solid not flashing came on no engine sputter. I drove to my dealer and they found a thermostat related problem, replaced thermostat and cleared light. Drove another 1500 miles light came back on. This time they had the same code come up in diagnostics, they did not replace thermostat. They downloaded the lastest version of the firmware, cleared mine and installed. So far no problem 6500 miles.

CEL came on today. steady, yellow outline. Only 200 miles, most of it put on today (just picked it up yesterday). Not really sputtering, but idling a little rough -- almost sounds like it wants to quit, but keeps chugging. Otherwise runs fine ... smooth and strong. Temps have been in the mid-20's all day and falling, which seems to have something to do with this problem. Hopefully it's nothing serious, 'cos man I love this car.

At 1500 miles, Li'l Red lost power, CEL came on. Searched posts, realized I had filled up with gas shortly before. Checked the gas cap, seemed ok, but it was not tight enough to click. Next day it ran fine, but called my MA. On the third start-up, light went out, no more problems.

Same here.

350 miles on car. Will not idle. Runs rough, chugs, spurts, tach sweeps up and down. New gas too. OBC says "CC-ID 031". 2007 Cooper base. Not happy at all.

If it's a Cooper, did it have the original software upgrade from earlier in the year?

I took mine in to the dealer today and they couldn't find any of the problems identified by the code and opened a file with MINI to determine other causes. They reset the lights and it hasn't come back on. Mine came on when my tank of gas was low and triggered the warning light.
So maybe that has something to do with it.

200 miles, similar symptoms -- sort of. It was just idling rough, but was running ok until the CEL came on, then it went into 'limp' mode. Still idled rough, ran smooth but weak. Dealer traced it down to the variable valve timing control valve; they're reasonably sure that's what it is, but as of yesterday were still waiting for the ok from a higher authority to replace it.

Two days in my garage, four days in the shop ... this is not a good beginning. :impatient But at least they think they know what it is, and the service guys themselves have kept me informed the whole way.

Good luck with yours ...

Put $20 of gas in the other day, My CEL came on yesterday when the gas gage turned orange. Thinking back, I don't think I clicked my cap but one time (it was really COLD outside and I was in a hurry). Am hoping that after filling up a bit ago that my CEL light will go out....Rememer to CLICK it???? Thanks for all the good info, I feel more secure that this was my problem!!

If that's the cause, it will probably take a few to several tanks of gas to reset. Be patient if the car's running ok.

I just purchased a 2007 MCS , auto trans, premium, convenience, cold weather packages, delivered in December. With just around 600 mi, the check engine light came on. The dealer told me to check the gas cap. I checked the gas cap and it was on tight. It seems not to have the power that it had previously, but doesnt seem to have any stuttering and is not running roughly.

Looks like I have the same issue as others. I am taking it in for service next week. Hopefully it is just a simple software issue that has been resolved.

I too am a bit disappointed that I would have an issue with the engine at 600 miles. The engine is not even broke in and I did not expect to have an issue when purchasing a car like a MINI.

2007 MCS manual w/ 5500 miles. I started the car and it just kept revving its rpms up to about 2500 rpms. I turned it off and on twice and finally the sputtering went away, but the CEL was still on. Drove normally or I think it did, I didn't push the car. The light went away after two days, have not gone to dealer yet. Also, did not recently get gas.

Check Engine light only

2007 MCS manual shift - have about 4000 miles on it. The light came on suddenly while driving on highway. Haven't noticed anything different - no loss of power. Got Gas about few days ago (may be about a week ago). I dont think gas cap is the problem.

Planning to take the car to the dealer on monday (tomorrow if open on saturday. Dealer is across the street so that helps)
