Boot Leaking

Just wondering if anyone else has experience any problems with this before.

Went to load some groceries in my MINI this morning (yes, we use it for grocery shopping...) and noticed there being some rust stains, etc. on my boot mat. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the carpet underneath the mat was completely saturated with water, and... the battery compartment was more than halfway full of rusty, stagnet water. I know this can't be good with all of the little electronic modules, wiring harnesses down there. I always make sure that the boot lid is fully closed and the "open boot" light has never came on before, so I'm fairly certain I'm not at fault. I'm assuming the weather stripping around the lid is faulty or something... I'm just really uncertain as to how all of that water got in there. Anyways, I do have an appointment at Mini of Dallas Monday morning, hopefully they'll be able to resolve it.

Was just curious if anybody else has had this happen to them or else it's just a freak, isolated incident.

Thanks for any imput anybody has.

~ John

BTW, It's an '04 MCS with the battery in the boot... if that has anything to do with it.

There may be other issues involved (like a faulty seal), but have any of you "leakers" tried adjusting the boot latch? Fairly easy to do, just pop off the screw covers on either side of the latch striker (that squared-off hoop thingy), loosen the bolts, and move the latch striker in a bit. This will make the boot close a little tighter against the seal.
Again, you may have other issues, but give it a try.

Lots of people have had this problem. It's usually the drain hose for the sunroof. That was the problem with mine.

Some can be from the rear glass, from the third brake light, or from the antenna. Third brake light is kind of easy to tell. If it looks like it is retaining water, it is probaly leaking through the screw holes into the rear.
