Anybody with 15% pulley have tensioner replaced

Hello,
I think my tensioner is in need of replacement. I was wondering if I should expect the dealer to warranty the replacement or if they would blame the trouble on the reduction pulley.

Coincidentally, my Bypass valve appears to have failed today..... throwing code P1688. Loss of power, SES lights, limp mode.

So, If I have to have the car towed to a dealer (150 miles), should I try to get them to fix the tensioner as well? or should I plan on changing it myself to avoid grief with warranty charges. It would be cheaper for me to purchase a tensioner and install it myself than to have them change it and pay labor charges after the fact.

Thanks
Donald

FWIW

I think it really is up to the dealer as to what they will do....why not call them and ask? I would also ask if the Bypass valve will be replaced under warrantee...they could try to pull one on you there too (if they are jerks)

I have found 2 types...1st) if they can find a way to chg you they will and second, some are mod friendly. My Ex dealer (sold my mini) was pretty reasonable. Their policy was if something fails that could be a result of the mod..they charged you...if not...they warranteed it...they only way to find out is ask the SA IMHO!

I also had a stock 03 MC where the tensioner bearing failed....they changed it out no questions asked...but on my 04 MCS, it had a 15% pulley and they said, anything related would not be covered...never had the chance to find out...I am Miniless now (miss it too) BTW...when the PS fan in the 04 MCS went out...it was flatbedded 125 miles! uggh not having a close dealer can be a pain.

Regards and Luck
