92 octane

I was tooling around town in an area I hadn't been to before (a true motoring adventure) when to my amazement I came upon a BP station with 92 octane fuel. I had only about 15 miles on my range so I filled up. Did my MINI seek out the gas she craved?

One octane number makes a huge difference in the car. I could have sworn my tank was empty based on my acceleration. However, as soon as I turned the corner I knew it was full.

My search for 93 octane will not stop but im pleased with 92 for now; I will never add octane boosters as per many recomendations. If you want to compare prices the gas was $2.50 a gallon, I do not recall what 91 was today but it lingers around $2.4X a gallon.

93 is the norm here and you have to search hard to find 91 and 92.

My car, or at least I, can't tell the difference between 91, 92 and 93 octane. Below that, and the car seems to cross that 'threshold' into unacceptability. But each car is a little different.

I used to be able to get 94 but the only place I've seen it was Sunoco and the only one around closed for a while to remodel. 93 is good for me. 1 octane point won't make a difference IMO. Also, now WAWA gas/pee water. I will gladly pay the extra for Exxon/Mobil.

There is a "Stop 'n Rob" here in Modesto, that sells 100 octane under the Union 76 banner. At about $6 bucks a gallon, last I checked, gives new meaning to "Stop 'n Rob".

Six bucks a gallon is what SUNOCO sells their (260) 100 octane for here also.
