My doorjamb sticker says 38 psi for the 17" tires. I did this, and wore out the center section of the tires very quickly. I now run 32 psi all around, and I have even tire wear.

Like many other topics, there is considerable dabate. I posted my experiences. Other people with differing driving styles will have correspondingly differing opinions.

Yes, Agreed. Those the ARE the cold temps and a 80 degree day will start out with a different cold pressure than a 10 degree day. The final pressure is LOAD rated (according to the weight in the car)

That is exactly the point I was trying to make earlier. MDSbrain also was running 38 pounds with only himself mostly in the car and that means the center of the tire should be getting more contact than the edges .... premature wear.

I have original 17" GoodYear runflats. 25,500 miles. Rotate alot. My dealer said 34 psi, so I did that to about 18,000 miles. Mileage around 24. I stuck 38psi in and yes. 29 mpg. I had to go out just now with the flashlight to check wear. Nothing jumped out at me for center tread wear. But now I'm tempted to go down to 36 psi and monitor mileage. Thanks for the heads up all.

Please don't misunderstand me but, I find it hard to believe that 4 psi (34 to 38) will result in a 5 mpg increase... especially with runflats. Perhaps there was something else that contributed to the better mpg. You may want to repeat your test.
