guys i'm not talking catch cans.

i'm talking about simply changing the drain plug so that's its magnetic.

some drain plugs aren't magnectic. on the original MINI's you used to have to change them.

i'm wondering if the drain plugs on the new MINI's are magnectic or not and if i can get an Oil Trap (magnetic drain plug) for them.

cheers

Well, you can get any number of magnetic add-ons that will perform a similar function of trapping ferrous particles. But what about the non-ferrous particles? Things like bearing bits come to mind....

Sorry for the confusion...

my FIAT did have an oil trap. Would separate the oil from the vapor stream and let it drain back into the crank case...

I wouldn't worry about it. That is what a filter is for. As an experiment, I cut open the original break-in filter and ran a very strong magnet over its surface. I picked up only the tiniest microscopic collection of ferrous particles and decided that it wasn't really a big deal or concern.

You want to order up one of their oil drain plugs. I run one of these in the K bike motor in my Grinnall Scorpion. This thing catches the absolute finest powder that slips through your filter. The stuff is so fine, it's a bear to get it off their oil drain plug. A super powerful magnetic end, oversized. Worth every nickel of the cost. Anybody that says your filter, no matter how good it is, is picking up everything is mistaken, and this level of magnet proves it. I'm also curious, is the oil filter cover on the new mini MAGNETIC? Could you put a magnetic cap on it like the wife runs on her Toyota?
