2003 MCS with 2,500 miles. Noticed a shaking feeling at idle..tach steady, felt like exaust system...since yesterday. This morning, she stuttered and the "Check Engine" and "DSC" light up. Then, she really started sputtering and pick up went to h... At that point, I was 15 miles from the nearest service center so I called for a tow :???: :???: :???:
Any ideas?

Did the EML light come on too?

I could be a bad engine wiring harness. I had mine replaced, in my case the EML and Service Engine Soon lights came on putting the engine in limp-home mode.

Good luck,

retroom

Did your MINI get fixed?
Did the service tech explain the problem?
If fixed, what was the fix?
Please keep us updated. Thanks,

MINIJC

Yep, has your problem been resolved?
I would like to apologize to you, drdave11,
I did not mean to harass you in times of trouble (the 1st gear comment was actually directed at MINI Division, not at you drdave!!)
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble and hope you get things sorted out soon.
Please keep us posted!

Based upon my purely subjective experiences in having a problem-free January 2003 build MINI, I had no doubt that MiniUSA was checking up on this and other owner sites as none of the previous problems seem to be present (yes, I just crossed my fingers) Motor On!

MG-BGT - May I assume that you have one of those? I had a '73 BGT in the 80's and miss it from time to time. What's the spec on your classic?

Hey Davenc,
I HAD (alas no more) a 1973 MGB-GT, mustard yellow. Original chrome bumpers, Rostyle wheels. Twin SUs (stock) with foam filters and velocity stacks. Modified cylinder head with modded valves and springs for 7000 rpm max. Electronic ignition. Headers and sports exhaust.
It was a blast to drive, and I used to miss it A LOT....

until I got my new MINI Cooper S!!!!!

Problem Solved...After 2 days in the shop, diagnostics revealed a 1 time O2 sensor fault and a misfire in Cylinder #4. They swapped out the #4 plug, put in a new coil and reset the sesnor. Everything seems fine now...she's purring like a kitten..In fact...just dusted a new Nissan Maxima yesterday Let's keep our fingers crossed. Thanks to all who offered support and ideas.

Yes, I called roadside assistance and the towing company showed up w/in an hour (it's run thru AAA here in MN). They loaded the car on a flat-bed( always a must when towing a mini) and took me and the car to BMW at no charge. Mini also provided a free rental car for me during the 2 days..an '03 Buick Le Sabre....what a boat!! All in all, outside of the inconvenience of breaking down, it went very smoothly

Good to hear that there is a solution to this problem! I've had my car in four or five times for it, and had the misfire happen countless others that I've essentially ignored, without resolution.

I'll put this to my Service Advisor, I guess. Thanks!

Erik
