Best SC Pulley Removal Tool
Best SC Pulley Removal Tool
It appears that there are two main styles of SC pulley removal tools. One is a more traditional pulley plate/clamp, that you must use together with a separate puller. See first photo for an example.
The other style has the puller and clamp all in one unit, which supposedly does not require unbolting the tensioner. See second photo for an example. The third photo is the Alta version, which I would put in this category as well.
Any thoughts? Time is important to me (which is why I am buying the tensioner tool instead of making my own) but I also want to have the right tools to do the work properly.

I watched and took notes last month as Randy Webb did S/C pulley installs.

He uses a home-made tensioner tool to release tension on the belt,
and a standard pulley removal tool. He loans the tools for free if you buy the pulley from him.
His procedure looked quick and easy if you unbolt/bolt the tensioner's 4 bolts in a specific order (remove the 2 smallest/middle bolts last, and reinstall them 1st).
I plan on doing my own pulley with these steps, and I'm not convinced that the "deluxe supercharger pulley removal tool" has any significant advantage -- just more risk in damaging the shaft on which the pulley mounts.
Given the correct order, I disagree with the claim, "Leaving the tensioner on easily saves 15-30 minutes of hassle"

There were some clarifications to the instructions, mostly where to look when you're jacking up the engine to avoid damage. I can post those when I finish with them if there's interest.

For clarification, the Alta puller requires the removal of the belt tensioner. The one in the middle is the same one MINI Madness uses and they recommend them. Either way, I would recommend applying anti-sieze to the main bolt. I nearly busted the one on the Alta before applying anti-sieze. If I could go back, I would try the middle one. Looks fast and easy to use.
