Problem A-brewin in Transmision Town

I think I may have a tranny problem a-brewin'. I had my car up on jack stands so I could try and fix an exhaust rattle.

While I had the car up on the stands I took it out of gear and started it. I wanted to listen for rattles and leaks. Anyway I revved the engine a couple of times and I noticed the wheels started spinning. Not in gear, mind you. In neutral. Clutch pedal out.

Let me also add that I noticed some time ago that my front wheels move freely even while in gear. Example: car up on jack stands, engine off, tranny in 1st gear, front wheels rotate freely...shouldn't there be resistance???

Let me know what you make of this.

Sean

This is normal. There is a relatively minute drag of the various forward gears/syncros when disengaged.

The wheels will independently move freely even when on stands while in gear due to the differential. You need to hold one wheel still while turning the other, or turn them both in the same direction.

I got beat to it, glad you got the answer you were looking for. The first time I noticed it, I was reminded of my subaru, which would move in nuetral on the road at about 15 mph, that was a whole different story
