I'll be getting the sunroof rails greased this week and report back. It doesn't happen often enough to be concerned but I'd rather it not happen.

reefkid - did it work? Mine is annopying me now so I'm going to try a greese myself - if it doesn't work the dealer can try in a couple month at the first service.

Creaks

The latest issue of Road & Track says that they had hatch creaking with their car and fixed it with a new latch. I think they also had door alignment issues. I have a non-sunroof MCS and it creaks, too.

IT also has the most irritating noise somewhere in the dash near the center. I have no idea what it is, but MAN is it persistent! (Suggestions?)

Mine used to do it ('03 MCS w/ sunroof) when new but has since stopped for quite a while now (34k miles). I have notice thought that i have two distinct depressions on each side of the roof beside where the two sunroof glass pieces meet (ie about 3/4 toward the back of the car). They are hard to notice by looking but running your hand along the roof (the part on either side of the sunroof) you can easily feel them. I call it a mini quirk...

They greased my sunroof with no noticeable improvement. I haven't had them try anything else recently but I need to have my mini steering wheel logo replaced for the third time soon and I'll have them take a look again at the creak.

Sorry started reading through but don't have time to read them all now.
YES! My MCS 05 (born in April 05) does the squeak noise when coming out of the driveway as well. Very sharp noise but I never thought that was an issue.
So what’s the final prognosis, anyone figured out what' happening?
Thanks guys.

What's a plastic diverter piece? Can you describe it any better? Thanks.

Yes, it is TRUE ....

Creak and noise would not go away ... had it to dealer twice, not fixed first time, they adjusted some things at first, just got it back!!!

Sunroof frame replaced under warranty, due to "flexing"

From my educated guess: The moonroof casette is not that stable and from my research, there have been several windshields and moonroofs exploding due to the tempered glass. Mine was the first in a Mini, though.

Nope...Well, not as far as I know. I had the dealership tint the windows but I'm sure the moonroof was not an option. It was pretty dark but my new one is just the same.

Nope....Just driving down the freeway. I have noticed that I have flex in the moonroof and the rear hatch. Whenever I go over something at an angle, these two things make a LOUD pop. Has been like that since it's birth.

I notice torsional flex whenever I corner agressively (like thru a roundabout) but all it does is make my crackling dash rattle worse in my early build 05 S.

I'll do that whenever I get around to it. I'm actually trying to cage my car right now. I'm in a so-so mood about my Mini. I use it as a daily driver and want to track it so bad. If the motor drops-out, so be it. I still keep it nice though. As for your question....they upgarded the latch mechanism but it still does it. I thought it was my RSM's or a drop link but all seems well. As far as the replaced moonroof......well, MNS did a real crappy job with the install. This is one of my only grips with the dealership. I still find glass and what-not in the track. Plus, you can tell they didn't align it right because with it open something plastic rattles around so bad that I usually close it. I'm at the point with the Mini to say, "Whatever."

sorry to hear that bro.

it sux that a lot of these dealers suk at small details... ....itry not to let them mess w/mine to much, jus dont trust them.
i have a crack on my wind screen and im sweatin' the day that i have to get it replaced dont even trust the people that do the replacements on these, i do most of what i can do myself.
hope it werks out tho, the cage sounds k00l!! whos will u use?

Most likely Autopower but I am reading that SCCA might change the cage specs soon. So, I might hold off.

If you believe you have symptoms showing chassis twisting or flexing, consider injecting foam into the frame to make it a bit more rigid. It's cheap and seems to help. Have a look at:
