Odd "Clacking" noise... any ideas?
Hi there. When I got to work this morning I noticed an odd, dull "Clacking" noise coming from under the bonnet
I popped the hood and took a look and it sounded like it was coming from the area down and in front of the intake. It was a dull, dry, rythmic clack and once I stopped and restarted the engine, it went away
It's an '06 MCS, no mods to the engine, 6800+ miles and the fluid levels are all good. It's still around 2500+ miles away from service #1.
Does anyone have any idea what this could have been?
I'd appreciate any advice / comments.
Thanks,
Drill

I have recently noticed a similar sound, usually before the motor has warmed up in the morning ('05 MC 13,000 miles). Sounds like it is coming from under the fuel rail or someplace at the top of the motor, sounds a bit like tapping a pipe with a hammer?
Does it go away with clutch depression, I hear lifters and this clutch thing on a late 05, anoyes the heck out of me.

Well it DID sound like it was coming from around there
I had my head under the bonnet so didn't try depressing the clutch. If it happens again that's what I'll do
Yesterday was the first time I'd heard it and after restarting the motor it went away
Thanks for the help and if it happens again I'll try the clutch and let y'all know
