I think I had a problem never before posted...

Last Thurs. while driving East on Hwy 156 on my way to work, I went over a hill and as I came down it felt like the transmission popped out of gear.
I was able to downshift but could not accelerate. I pulled over to the side of the road and the engine died.
I tried to restart it and, although it would crank with a lot of force, it just would not start.
Called AAA and had them take it up to MINI of MtView (a nice 60 mile ride in a tow truck).
They tore into it on Friday and found that the fuel pick-up tube had come loose and no fuel was getting to the engine.
They reattached the tube, put the car back together and charged me $350.00 for the trouble.
I ran a 'Search' but didn't get any hits so I think this is a first!

I do remember hitting 'hard' when I went over a street culvert while in Vegas for AMVIV III - but that was almost 2-weeks before the car shut down. Maybe I loosened it??
Car is fine now (except for some dash lights that have come on since I had the dealer do the "Smog" upgrade).

Fuel pick up tube? to me that means the tube inside the gas tank.

I have mine all apart. I'll go to the shop and get some pictures.

One fuel pickup is part of the pump itself, and the other is conected to the fuel gage pickup with a line to the fuel pump. It's hard to think that one could come off without being touched.
I'll look closer into this.

You are correct ... it is in the tank and it is connected to the fuel pump.
Not a part that is readily seen or touched.

Something to do with the "old" cars running too rich at idle. The new program leans the fuel - which gives the car the, now classic, "stumble" upon acceleration.
