1st check-up / oil-change

I apologize if I've missed an official post about this somewhere, feel free to URL link...

I'm planning a cross-country trip with my new MINI from Chicago to Seattle (~2000+ miles) and want to give it the very best treatment possible (the first 1k will be optimum break-in style driving).

Is there an optimum mileage for the first oil change / check-in? I'm wondering because there's no MINI dealer between Minnesota and Seattle.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

There are several threads regarding changing the break-in oil, so I'll leave that alone! But officially, the first oil change is at approximately 10K miles (varies based on how the car is driven). When you first start the car, the computer display will tell you how many miles until the next oil change.

So as long as you keep the RPMs down during the first part of the trip, you should be fine! And most likely, you'll get another 8K miles of fun driving in before you take it back to a dealer for scheduled service.

I'd suggest you do an oil change after your trip. The service indicator will have you change oil somewhere between 10-15k miles but that seems a bit much for me. I did mine at 1300 miles, and then afterwards I do one every 8000 miles. Your driving habits also factor into this.

I presume since the scheduled change is not until 10k, that my dealer will not do a free service change at 2k after my trip..

I guess I can afford a few bucks on a good oil change... (at the dealer it'll be pricey, though..)

Nope, they won't do it. You can just do it yourself, unless that's not an option.
